Setup
1. Unpacking and Placement
Carefully remove the amplifier from its packaging. Place the amplifier on a stable, level surface, ensuring adequate ventilation around the unit. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
2. Power Connection
Ensure the amplifier's power switch is in the "OFF" position. Connect the supplied AC power cord to the amplifier's AC input and then to a grounded mains power outlet. Verify the voltage selector on the rear panel matches your local mains voltage (100V, 115V, 220V, or 240V).

3. Speaker Connection
Connect your bass speaker cabinet(s) to the amplifier's speaker outputs using high-quality speaker cables. The Terror Bass delivers 500 Watts into 4 Ohms and 250 Watts into 8 Ohms. Ensure the total impedance of your speaker setup matches or exceeds the amplifier's minimum recommended impedance (4 Ohms). Using an impedance lower than 4 Ohms can damage the amplifier.
The rear panel features two Speakon outputs. For a single 8 Ohm cabinet, connect to either output. For two 8 Ohm cabinets, connect one to each output for a total 4 Ohm load.
4. Instrument Connection
Connect your bass guitar to the "INPUT" jack on the front panel using a standard instrument cable.

Operating Instructions
Front Panel Controls
- Power Switch: Turns the amplifier ON or OFF.
- Standby Switch: Engages or disengages standby mode. Always switch to standby before turning off the power to prolong tube life.
- Gain: Controls the input sensitivity and the amount of preamp drive. Higher settings introduce more harmonic richness and overdrive.
- Shape: A unique tone control that adjusts the overall tonal character. Turning it clockwise scoops the mid-range and boosts bass/treble, while counter-clockwise provides a flatter response.
- Bass: Adjusts the low-frequency response.
- Middle: Adjusts the mid-frequency response.
- Treble: Adjusts the high-frequency response.
- Volume: Controls the overall output level of the amplifier.
- Clean Switch: Engages a clean mode for increased headroom and smoother, cleaner tones.
- Pad Switch: Reduces the input sensitivity by 6dB, useful for active basses or instruments with high output levels to prevent input clipping.
Rear Panel Connections

- Balanced Output (XLR): Provides a balanced, post-EQ and volume signal for direct connection to a mixing console or recording interface. Includes a Ground Lift switch to eliminate hum caused by ground loops.
- FX Loop (Send/Return): Allows connection of external effects pedals or processors. The Send jack outputs the signal from the preamp, and the Return jack receives the processed signal back into the power amp section. The Send is valve-driven, and the Return is solid-state.
- Limiter Switch: Located on the rear panel, this switch prevents the output stage from being overdriven when operating into a 4 Ohm load, helping to protect the amplifier and maintain clarity.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Disconnect the amplifier from the mains power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish. Ensure ventilation grilles are free from dust and debris.
Tube Replacement
The Terror Bass features a valve preamp. Over time, vacuum tubes may degrade and require replacement. If you notice a significant change in tone, reduced output, or excessive noise, the preamp tubes may need to be replaced. This procedure should ideally be performed by a qualified technician.
Ventilation
Always ensure proper ventilation for the amplifier. Do not block the vents on the top, sides, or rear of the unit. Overheating can lead to reduced performance and potential damage.
Troubleshooting
- No Sound:
- Check if the power cable is securely connected and the amplifier is switched ON (both power and standby).
- Verify speaker cables are correctly connected and not damaged.
- Ensure instrument cable is connected to the input and the instrument's volume is up.
- Check the "Volume" control on the amplifier is not set to minimum.
- If using the FX Loop, ensure all connections are correct and any connected effects units are powered on and functioning. Try bypassing the FX Loop to isolate the issue.
- Distorted or Weak Sound:
- Check the "Gain" control. If set too high, it can cause excessive distortion.
- Ensure the "Pad" switch is engaged if using an active bass with high output.
- Verify speaker impedance matches the amplifier's requirements (minimum 4 Ohms).
- Inspect speaker cones for damage.
- Preamp tubes may be failing; consider professional inspection.
- Hum or Noise:
- Ensure all cables are shielded and in good condition.
- Try using the "Ground Lift" switch on the Balanced Output if connected to external equipment.
- Move the amplifier away from other electronic devices that may cause interference.
- Check for faulty power outlets or ground loops in your electrical system.
