1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your Dayton Electric Wall Heater. Please read all instructions carefully before installation and use. Retain this manual for future reference.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Risk of Fire, Electric Shock, or Injury to Persons.

• Read all instructions before installing or using this heater.
• This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains, at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the heater and keep them away from the sides and rear.
• Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or invalids and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended.
• Do not operate any heater after it malfunctions, has been dropped, or damaged in any manner. Disconnect power at service panel and have heater inspected by a reputable electrician before reusing.
• Do not use outdoors.
• To disconnect heater, turn controls to off, and turn off power to heater circuit at main disconnect panel.
• Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater.
• To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner.
• A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside. Do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable vapors or liquids are used or stored.
• Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
• This heater is intended for use with 208/240VAC electrical systems. Ensure your electrical supply matches the heater's requirements.

3. Setup and Installation

The Dayton Electric Wall Heater can be installed either recessed into a wall or surface-mounted. Professional installation by a qualified electrician is recommended.

3.1. Pre-Installation Checks

• Verify that the power supply voltage (208/240VAC) matches the heater's rating.
• Ensure the circuit breaker and wiring are appropriately sized for the heater's wattage (3600/1800W or 4800/2400W).
• Select a location that allows for proper clearances from combustible materials (minimum 3 feet from the front).
• Do not install the heater directly below a permanent electrical outlet.

3.2. Recessed Installation

1. Cut an opening in the wall according to the dimensions specified in the heater's packaging or technical drawings. Ensure there are no studs, pipes, or wiring within the cut-out area.
2. Run appropriate electrical wiring from the circuit breaker to the installation location.
3. Secure the heater's back box into the wall opening using appropriate fasteners.
4. Connect the electrical wiring to the heater terminals as per the wiring diagram provided with the unit. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
5. Mount the heater assembly (heating element and grille) to the back box.

3.3. Surface Installation

1. Attach the optional surface mount frame (sold separately) to the wall using appropriate fasteners.
2. Run appropriate electrical wiring from the circuit breaker to the installation location, routing it through the surface mount frame.
3. Connect the electrical wiring to the heater terminals as per the wiring diagram provided with the unit. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.
4. Mount the heater assembly (heating element and grille) to the surface mount frame.

4. Operating Instructions

Once installed and power is supplied, your Dayton Electric Wall Heater is ready for operation.

4.1. Power On/Off

Ensure the circuit breaker supplying power to the heater is in the 'ON' position.

4.2. Adjusting Temperature/Heat Output

The heater features a control knob, typically located on the front panel (refer to Figure 1). Rotate this knob to adjust the desired heat output or temperature setting. Turning the knob clockwise generally increases the heat, while turning it counter-clockwise decreases it. Some models may have multiple power settings (e.g., high/low) or a thermostat function.

• Thermostat Control: If equipped, set the knob to the desired room temperature. The heater will cycle on and off to maintain this temperature.
• Power Settings: Some models offer distinct wattage settings (e.g., 3600W/1800W or 4800W/2400W). Select the appropriate setting based on your heating needs.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures efficient and safe operation of your heater.

5.1. Cleaning

• ALWAYS DISCONNECT POWER at the main service panel before attempting any cleaning or maintenance.
• Allow the heater to cool completely before cleaning.
• Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces of the heater. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove dust and lint from the grille openings.
• Do not spray liquids directly onto the heater.

5.2. General Care

• Periodically check the power cord (if applicable) and connections for any signs of damage or wear.
• Ensure that air inlets and outlets remain unobstructed.
