CAI - EMERSON Low Voltage Thermostat

Emerson Low Voltage Thermostat User Manual

Model: Low Voltage Thermostat

Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Emerson Low Voltage Thermostat. This programmable thermostat is designed to control heating and cooling systems with up to 2 stages of heat and 2 stages of cool. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper function and safety.

Safety Information

  • Always turn off power to the heating/cooling system at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel before installing or servicing the thermostat.
  • Installation should be performed by a qualified technician to prevent electrical shock or damage to the system.
  • Ensure all wiring connections are secure and comply with local electrical codes.
  • Do not short out the terminals on the gas valve or at the system control to test the thermostat. This will damage the thermostat and void the warranty.

Setup and Installation

Mounting Location:

Install the thermostat on an interior wall, approximately 5 feet (1.5 meters) above the floor. Avoid locations near drafts, direct sunlight, heat sources, or unheated/uncooled areas (e.g., outside walls, windows, doors) that could affect temperature readings.

Wiring:

  1. Turn off power: Disconnect power to the heating and cooling system at the main fuse or circuit breaker.
  2. Remove old thermostat: Carefully remove the old thermostat from the wall. Note the wire connections.
  3. Identify wires: The thermostat uses standard low voltage wiring. Terminal designations include: RC, RH, C, W/E, W2, Y, Y2, O/B/6, G, L. Refer to your system's wiring diagram for specific connections.
  4. Connect wires: Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the new Emerson thermostat. Ensure connections are secure.
  5. Mount thermostat: Secure the thermostat base to the wall using the provided screws. Attach the thermostat body to the base.

Battery Installation:

The thermostat is powered by batteries (included) and is also dual transformer compatible. Open the battery compartment, insert fresh batteries according to polarity markings, and close the compartment. The low battery indicator will alert you when replacement is needed.

Operating Instructions

System Mode Selection:

Press the System button to cycle through the available modes:

  • Heat: The system will operate to maintain the set heating temperature.
  • Off: Both heating and cooling systems are turned off.
  • Cool: The system will operate to maintain the set cooling temperature.
  • Auto: The thermostat automatically switches between heating and cooling modes as needed to maintain the desired temperature range.

Fan Mode Selection:

Press the Fan button to select the fan operation mode:

  • Auto: The fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is actively operating.
  • On: The fan runs continuously, regardless of whether the heating or cooling system is active.

Setting Temperature:

Use the Up and Down arrow buttons to adjust the desired temperature setting. The "Set To" display will show your target temperature.

Programming Schedule:

This thermostat allows for 7-day programming with 4 temperature settings per day. Refer to the detailed programming section in the full manual (if available) or use the Menu button to access programming options. Generally, you will set different temperatures for Wake, Leave, Return, and Sleep periods for each day of the week.

Temporary Program Override / Hold:

  • Temporary Hold: Adjust the temperature using the Up/Down arrows. This will temporarily override the program until the next scheduled program period begins.
  • Permanent Hold: Press the Hold/Run button once to enter a permanent hold. The thermostat will maintain the current temperature indefinitely until the Hold/Run button is pressed again to resume the program.

Keypad Lockout:

The keypad lockout feature prevents unauthorized changes to settings. Consult the full product manual or the thermostat's menu for instructions on how to activate and deactivate this feature.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement:

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries immediately to ensure continuous operation. Use fresh alkaline batteries. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section for instructions.

Filter Indicator:

The thermostat includes a filter indicator to remind you when it's time to change or clean your system's air filter. Follow your HVAC system manufacturer's recommendations for filter maintenance. Reset the indicator through the thermostat's menu after servicing the filter.

Cleaning:

Clean the thermostat's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the thermostat.

Troubleshooting
