2. Safety Information

WARNING: Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service, or maintenance can cause injury or property damage. Read the installation, operating, and maintenance instructions thoroughly before installing or servicing this equipment.

  • Professional Installation Recommended: All gas products should be installed and serviced by professionals certified by the National Fireplace Institute (NFI) or Wood Energy Technology Transfer (WETT). The installer must comply with all state and local codes.
  • Natural Gas Only: This burner is designed for Natural Gas (NG) only. Do not attempt to use with Liquid Propane (LP) or any other fuel type.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation as this is a vented burner.
  • Clearances: Maintain proper clearances to combustible materials as specified by local codes and appliance manufacturer instructions.
  • Gas Leaks: Before initial use and after any service, check all gas connections for leaks using a soap solution. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Carbon Monoxide: Gas appliances produce carbon monoxide. Install and maintain carbon monoxide detectors in your home.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the fireplace when in operation.
  • Hot Surfaces: The burner and surrounding areas will become very hot during operation and remain hot for some time after shutdown. Avoid contact.

  • Dreffco 18-inch NG Fireplace Dual Row Gas Burner Pan (Actual dimensions: 16.25" x 6.5")
  • Black Non-Whistle Flex Line (10" length, 3/8" OD x 1/4" ID)
  • Vent-Clip
  • 3/8" and 1/2" Connections/Fittings for incoming gas line
  • Bonus Bag of Glowing Embers

4. Setup and Installation

Important: Installation must be performed by a qualified professional and comply with all local codes and regulations.

4.1 Pre-Installation Checks

  • Ensure the fireplace is clean and free of debris.
  • Confirm that the existing gas supply line is Natural Gas (NG) and has a 3/8" or 1/2" male flare gas stub.
  • Verify that the fireplace opening and firebox dimensions are suitable for an 18-inch burner and logs.
  • Turn off the gas supply at the main valve before beginning any work.

4.2 Installation Steps

  1. Position the Burner: Carefully place the Dreffco dual row burner pan into the fireplace. Ensure it is centered and stable. The burner has a 1/2-inch connection hub on both ends, allowing connection from either side.
  2. Connect the Flex Line: Attach one end of the black non-whistle flex line to one of the 1/2-inch connection hubs on the burner pan. Use a wrench to tighten securely, but do not overtighten.
  3. Connect to Gas Supply: Use the appropriate 3/8" or 1/2" fitting to connect the other end of the flex line to your incoming gas stub. Ensure all connections are tight.
  4. Secure the Vent-Clip: If applicable, use the vent-clip to secure the flex line or other components as needed to prevent obstruction or damage.
  5. Check for Leaks: Turn on the main gas supply. Apply a soap and water solution to all new gas connections. Bubbles indicate a leak. If a leak is detected, turn off the gas supply immediately, tighten the connection, and re-test. Repeat until no leaks are present.
  6. Arrange Glowing Embers: Distribute the bonus bag of glowing embers over the burner pan. These embers enhance the visual effect of the flames.
  7. Place Fire Logs: Arrange your 18-inch vented fire logs over the burner pan, ensuring they do not obstruct the burner ports or pilot light (if applicable). Allow for proper airflow around the logs.

5. Operating Instructions

Always follow the operating instructions provided with your specific fireplace and gas valve system.

5.1 Lighting the Burner

  1. Ensure the gas supply to the fireplace is open.
  2. If your fireplace has a pilot light, light it according to your fireplace manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Slowly open the main gas valve to the burner.
  4. Ignite the gas using a long lighter or the fireplace's integrated igniter system.
  5. Adjust the flame height using the fireplace's gas control knob.

5.2 Shutting Down the Burner

  1. Turn off the gas supply to the burner using the fireplace's gas control knob.
  2. If your fireplace has a pilot light, turn it off according to your fireplace manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Allow the burner and logs to cool completely before touching or covering.

  • Annual Inspection: Have the burner and gas connections inspected annually by a qualified service technician.
  • Cleaning: Periodically inspect the burner ports for any obstructions (e.g., dust, debris, insect nests). Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean the ports if necessary. Ensure the burner is cool before cleaning.
  • Embers: The glowing embers may need to be rearranged or replaced over time to maintain optimal appearance.
  • Burner Pan: The powder-coated steel burner pan is designed for longevity. Clean with a damp cloth when cool, avoiding abrasive cleaners.
