Setup
1. Placement
Place the UPS on a flat, stable surface in a clean, dry, and well-ventilated area. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for proper airflow, especially around the cooling fan on the rear panel. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.
2. Initial Charging
Before initial use, connect the UPS to a grounded wall outlet using the provided power cable. Allow the unit to charge for at least 6 hours to ensure the battery is fully charged. The display will indicate the battery charging status.
3. Connecting Devices
Plug your computer, monitor, and other critical electronic devices into the Schuko outlets on the rear of the UPS. Ensure the total power consumption of connected devices does not exceed the UPS's capacity (1400W for this model).
4. Software Installation (Optional)
For advanced monitoring and automatic shutdown features, install the UPSilon 2000 software from the included CD. Connect the UPS to your computer using the provided USB communication cable. Operating Instructions
Turning the UPS On/Off
- To Turn On: Press and hold the power button on the front panel for approximately 3 seconds until you hear a beep and the display illuminates.
- To Turn Off: Press and hold the power button for approximately 3 seconds until the display turns off and the unit powers down.
Understanding the Digital Display
The digital display provides real-time status information:
- Input Voltage (INPUT VAC): Shows the voltage of the incoming utility power.
- Output Voltage (OUTPUT VAC): Shows the voltage supplied by the UPS to connected devices.
- Battery Level (BATT LEVEL): Indicates the current charge level of the internal battery.
- Load Level (LOAD LEVEL): Shows the percentage of the UPS's capacity being used by connected devices.
- Operating Mode Icons: Icons may indicate Line Mode (utility power), Battery Mode (power outage), or Fault Mode.
Battery Mode Operation
During a power outage, the UPS will automatically switch to battery mode, providing power to connected devices. The UPS will emit an audible alarm (beeping) to indicate it is operating on battery power. The frequency of the beeps may increase as the battery level decreases. When the battery is critically low, the UPS will signal for an imminent shutdown. It is recommended to save your work and shut down connected devices gracefully during this time.
Maintenance
- Battery Care: To maximize battery lifespan, ensure the UPS is kept in a cool, dry environment. Avoid frequent deep discharges. It is recommended to perform a full discharge/recharge cycle every 3-6 months if the UPS is not frequently used for power outages. Note that battery performance may degrade over time, typically after 1-2 years of continuous use, depending on environmental conditions and usage patterns.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the UPS from the power outlet before cleaning. Use a dry, soft cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
- Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation openings on the UPS are clear of dust and obstructions to ensure proper airflow and prevent overheating.
