Installation Instructions

Follow these steps to replace the filters in your Shark vacuum. Always ensure the vacuum is unplugged before performing any maintenance.

  1. Locate Filter Compartments: Refer to your Shark vacuum's original user manual to identify the locations of the foam, felt, and HEPA filter compartments. These are typically found near the dust cup and at the base of the vacuum.
  2. Remove Old Filters: Carefully remove the existing foam, felt, and HEPA filters. Dispose of old filters responsibly.
  3. Install Foam and Felt Filters:

Insert the new HEPA filter into its compartment. Ensure it clicks into place or is securely fastened according to your vacuum's design.

  5. Close Compartments: Securely close all filter compartments.
  6. Test Vacuum: Plug in your vacuum and perform a brief test to ensure proper operation.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning of your filters is essential for maintaining vacuum performance and extending filter lifespan. The Dttery filters are washable and reusable.

  1. Frequency: It is recommended to clean the foam and felt filters every 1-2 months, or more frequently with heavy use. The HEPA filter typically requires less frequent cleaning, often every 6-12 months, but check your vacuum's specific recommendations.
  2. Cleaning Foam and Felt Filters:

Rinse the foam and felt filters under lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Gently squeeze out excess water. Do not wring. Allow filters to air dry completely for at least 24 hours before re-installing. Do not use a dryer or heat source.

  3. Cleaning HEPA Filter:

Tap the HEPA filter gently over a trash can to remove loose dirt and debris. If heavily soiled, rinse under lukewarm water, ensuring water flows through the pleated side. Allow to air dry completely for at least 24 hours. Do not use a dryer or heat source.

  4. Using the Cleaning Brush: Use the included small cleaning brush to remove stubborn dust and debris from filter surfaces or vacuum compartments before washing.

Important: Ensure all filters are completely dry before re-installing them into your vacuum. Installing wet filters can damage the vacuum motor.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues after replacing your filters, consider the following:

  • Reduced Suction: Ensure all filters are correctly installed and fully dry. Check that the dust cup is empty and properly sealed. Verify there are no blockages in the vacuum hose or attachments.
  • Unusual Odor: This may indicate filters were not completely dry before re-installation, leading to mold or mildew. Re-clean and ensure thorough drying, or replace filters if odor persists.
  • Filters Don't Fit: Double-check your vacuum model number against the compatible models listed in this manual (NV341, NV341Q).
