Image 1: The Kidz Corner Tele-science 23021 Astronomical Telescope shown in its retail packaging. The blue telescope tube, tripod, and eyepieces are visible through the clear plastic window. The packaging highlights "25/50 Power 40mm Astronomical Telescope with Diagonal Mirror and Tripod" and mentions the included "Star Walk 2" app.

Package Contents

Please verify that all the following components are present in your package:

  • Telescope Optical Tube (40mm Objective Lens, 500mm Focal Length)
  • Adjustable Tripod (Altazimuth Mount)
  • Diagonal Mirror
  • 20mm Eyepiece (for 25x magnification)
  • 10mm Eyepiece (for 50x magnification)
  • Retro Finderscope
  • Access to "Star Walk 2" Stargazing App (via smartphone)

Setup Instructions

  1. Assemble the Tripod: Extend the legs of the tripod to a stable position. Ensure the tripod head is level.
  2. Mount the Telescope Tube: Carefully place the telescope optical tube onto the tripod's altazimuth mount. Secure it using the provided fasteners. Ensure it is firmly attached but do not overtighten.
  3. Insert the Diagonal Mirror: Remove the dust cap from the focuser tube. Insert the diagonal mirror into the focuser tube and secure it with the small thumbscrew. The diagonal mirror redirects the light at a 90-degree angle, providing a more comfortable viewing position.
  4. Attach an Eyepiece: Insert either the 20mm or 10mm eyepiece into the diagonal mirror. Secure it with the small thumbscrew on the diagonal mirror. Start with the 20mm eyepiece for a wider field of view and easier object location.
  5. Install the Finderscope: Attach the retro finderscope to its designated bracket on the telescope tube. The finderscope helps in locating objects before viewing them through the main telescope.

Operating Instructions

  1. Locating an Object: Use the finderscope to roughly aim the telescope at your desired celestial object. Look through the finderscope and center the object in its crosshairs.
  2. Viewing Through the Main Telescope: Once the object is centered in the finderscope, look through the eyepiece of the main telescope. The object should now be visible within the field of view.
  3. Focusing: Use the manual focus knob located on the focuser tube to bring the image into sharp focus. Turn the knob slowly until the image appears clear and crisp.
  4. Changing Magnification: To change the magnification, remove the current eyepiece and insert the other eyepiece (e.g., switch from 20mm to 10mm for higher magnification). Remember that higher magnification results in a narrower field of view and a dimmer image.
  5. Using the "Star Walk 2" App: Download and install the "Star Walk 2" app on your smartphone. This app can help you identify celestial objects, plan your observations, and learn more about the night sky.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning Lenses: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses to gently wipe away dust. For stubborn smudges, use a specialized optical cleaning solution sparingly. Avoid touching the lens surfaces with your fingers.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the telescope in a dry, dust-free environment. Replace all dust caps on the objective lens, focuser, and eyepieces to protect them from dust and moisture.
  • Handling: Always handle the telescope with care. Avoid sudden impacts or dropping the instrument.

Troubleshooting

Problem: Image is blurry or out of focus.
Solution: Adjust the manual focus knob slowly until the image becomes sharp. Ensure the eyepiece is fully inserted and secured.
Problem: Cannot find any objects.
Solution: First, ensure the finderscope is properly aligned with the main telescope. Use the finderscope to locate and center the object before looking through the main eyepiece. Start with the lower magnification (20mm eyepiece) for a wider field of view.
Problem: Image is dim or dark.
Solution: This is normal with higher magnifications or when observing faint objects. Ensure you are observing from a dark location away from light pollution. Check that the objective lens dust cap is fully removed.
