1. Introduction

This device is designed to provide high-quality audio recording and playback capabilities for your studio or mobile setup. It combines a 2-input, 2-output USB audio interface with a monitor controller, allowing for flexible monitoring options. The SRI-2 features 24-bit/192kHz audio resolution, 48V phantom power, and Class A microphone preamplifiers, all housed in a robust aluminum chassis.

2. Safety Information

• Power Source: Use only the specified power adapter or a compliant USB power source.

4. Product Overview

4.1 Front Panel Controls and Connections

The front panel provides access to input controls, monitoring options, and headphone output.

1. INPUT 1 & 2 Gain Knobs: Adjust the input level for channels 1 and 2.
2. CLIP Indicators: Red LEDs illuminate when the input signal is too high, indicating potential clipping. Adjust gain to prevent clipping.
3. -0dB, -3dB, -6dB, -12dB, -24dB LEDs: Input level meters for visual feedback on signal strength.
4. LINE / INST Buttons: Toggle between Line level input (for keyboards, preamps) and Instrument level input (for guitars, basses).
5. +48V Phantom Power Button: Activates 48V phantom power for condenser microphones on both inputs. An LED indicates when active.
6. SUM Button: When engaged, combines the two input signals into a mono sum for direct monitoring.

4.2 Rear Panel Connections

12. SPEAKER A (Right/Left) Balanced Outputs: TRS outputs for connecting your primary studio monitors.
13. SPEAKER B (Right/Left) Balanced Outputs: TRS outputs for connecting a secondary pair of studio monitors.
14. USB Port: Connects the SRI-2 to your computer for audio and power.
15. EXTERNAL POWER Input: Optional input for an external power supply (not always required, as the unit can be USB bus-powered).

5. Setup

5.1 Driver Installation

Before connecting the SRI-2 to your computer, it is recommended to download and install the latest drivers from the Fluid Audio website. For Windows users, it has been observed that initial driver installation may be more successful when the SRI-2 is connected to a USB 2.0 port. After successful installation, the unit should function correctly when connected to a USB 3.0 port.

• Visit the official Fluid Audio website and navigate to the support or downloads section for the SRI-2.
• Download the appropriate drivers for your operating system (Windows, macOS).
• Follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers.

5.2 Connecting to Your Computer

Use the provided USB cable to connect the SRI-2 to an available USB port on your computer. The unit is typically USB bus-powered, meaning it draws power directly from the USB connection. If additional power is required or desired, connect an optional external power supply to the EXTERNAL POWER input on the rear panel.

5.3 Connecting Microphones and Instruments

• Microphones: Connect microphones to the INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 combo jacks using XLR cables. If using a condenser microphone, press the +48V Phantom Power button.
• Instruments: Connect instruments (e.g., guitar, bass) to the INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 combo jacks using 1/4-inch TS cables. Press the corresponding LINE / INST button to select Instrument mode.
• Line Level Devices: Connect line-level devices (e.g., synthesizers, external preamps) to the INPUT 1 or INPUT 2 combo jacks using 1/4-inch TRS or TS cables. Ensure the corresponding LINE / INST button is set to Line mode.

5.4 Connecting Studio Monitors

Connect your primary studio monitors to the SPEAKER A (Right/Left) Balanced Outputs using 1/4-inch TRS cables. If you have a second pair of monitors, connect them to the SPEAKER B (Right/Left) Balanced Outputs.

5.5 Connecting Headphones

Plug your stereo headphones into the 1/4-inch Headphone Output jack on the front panel.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Adjusting Input Levels

Use the INPUT 1 & 2 Gain Knobs to set the input level for your microphones or instruments. Monitor the CLIP Indicators and level LEDs to ensure the signal is strong but not clipping. Aim for the signal to peak around -6dB to -3dB on the meters during the loudest parts of your performance.

6.2 Using Phantom Power

If you are using condenser microphones, press the +48V Phantom Power button. The associated LED will illuminate, indicating that phantom power is active. Ensure dynamic microphones or ribbon microphones do not receive phantom power unless specifically designed to do so, as it can cause damage.

6.3 Direct Monitoring

The SRI-2 offers zero-latency direct monitoring. Use the DAW / INPUT button to switch between monitoring the live input signal directly from the interface (INPUT) or monitoring the playback from your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). For recording, monitoring the INPUT signal directly helps avoid latency issues.

The SUM button can be used to combine both input signals into a mono sum for direct monitoring, which is useful when recording a single mono source and wanting to hear it centered.

6.4 Speaker Switching

Use the SPEAKER A and SPEAKER B buttons to toggle between your connected studio monitor pairs. This allows for A/B comparison of your mix on different speakers.

6.5 Adjusting Output Volume

The large central MONITOR Volume Knob controls the output level for both the main speaker outputs and the headphone output simultaneously. Adjust this knob to a comfortable listening level.

7. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes.
• Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the SRI-2 in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
• Cable Management: Ensure all cables are neatly organized and not under strain to prevent damage to connectors or the unit.
