4. Setup

  1. Prepare the Model: Ensure the model surface is clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, or fingerprints. Any imperfections on the base coat will be magnified by a gloss finish.
  2. Environmental Conditions: Apply in a well-ventilated area with moderate temperature and humidity. Avoid extremely cold or humid conditions, which can affect drying and finish quality.
  3. Warm the Can (Optional but Recommended): For optimal performance and a smoother spray, place the sealed can in warm (not hot) water for 3-5 minutes before use. This helps to improve propellant pressure and paint flow.
  4. Shake Thoroughly: Shake the can vigorously for at least one minute after hearing the mixing ball rattle. Continue shaking periodically during application.
  5. Test Spray: Before applying to your model, perform a test spray on a scrap piece of plastic or cardboard to check the spray pattern and ensure proper flow.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Application Distance: Hold the can approximately 20-30 cm (8-12 inches) from the surface of the model.
  2. Thin Coats: Apply multiple thin, even coats rather than one thick coat. Thick coats can lead to runs, bubbles, or an uneven finish.
  3. Spray Motion: Use a smooth, sweeping motion, starting and ending the spray off the model to ensure even coverage. Overlap each pass slightly.
  4. Drying Time Between Coats: Allow sufficient drying time between coats (typically 10-15 minutes, depending on environmental conditions) to prevent solvent trapping and ensure proper adhesion.
  5. Full Cure Time: The top coat will be touch-dry relatively quickly, but allow at least 24 hours for a full cure before handling extensively or applying further treatments.
  6. Layering: For a deeper gloss, apply 2-3 thin coats.

6. Maintenance

  • Nozzle Cleaning: After each use, invert the can and spray for a few seconds until only clear propellant comes out. This clears the nozzle and prevents clogging.
  • Storage: Store the can upright in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the cap is securely replaced.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Uneven Finish/Roughness:
Cause: Insufficient shaking, spraying too far or too close, improper temperature/humidity.
Solution: Shake can thoroughly, maintain recommended spray distance, ensure optimal environmental conditions. Warm the can before use.
  • Bubbles/Orange Peel:
Cause: Applying too thick a coat, spraying too close, high humidity.
Solution: Apply thinner coats, increase spray distance, ensure low humidity.
  • Frosting/Whitening:
Cause: High humidity, spraying in cold conditions.
Solution: Apply in dry, moderate temperature conditions.
  • Sticky Surface:
Cause: Insufficient drying time between coats, applying too thick.
Solution: Allow adequate drying time between thin coats. Ensure full cure before handling.
  • Chemical Irritation:
    Cause: Direct skin contact.
Solution: Always wear protective gloves during application. Wash hands thoroughly after use. If irritation occurs, discontinue use and seek medical advice.
