2. Setup

2.1. Attaching the Yoyo String

Properly attaching the string is crucial for optimal yoyo performance. Follow these steps:

  1. Take a new string and locate the knotted end.
  2. Hold the knotted end in your hand and stand up straight.
  3. Let the other end of the string touch the floor. Using your navel as a reference point, cut off any excess string.
  4. Finally, tie a knot at the end you just cut, ensuring it's secure.
  5. Find the knotted end of the string and tie it to your finger.
  6. Next, find the other end of the string. Use your fingers to separate the string and place it over the yoyo.
  7. Hold the end of the string that's touching the yoyo with your left hand, and use your right hand to wind the rest of the string onto the yoyo.

2.2. Switching Between Responsive and Unresponsive Modes

The MAGICYOYO V3 offers dual functionality, allowing you to switch between responsive and unresponsive play. This involves changing the bearing and axle.

  • Responsive Mode: Uses a standard slim responsive bearing and an M4*10mm axle. In this mode, a gentle tug on the string will make the yoyo return to your hand.
  • Unresponsive Mode: Uses a wider KK unresponsive bearing and an M4*12mm axle. In this mode, the yoyo will spin at the end of the string without returning, requiring a 'bind' trick to bring it back.

To change the bearing and axle:

  1. Unscrew the two halves of the yoyo.
  2. Carefully remove the existing bearing and axle using the provided bearing removal tool.
  3. Insert the desired bearing (responsive or unresponsive) and the corresponding axle (M4*10mm for responsive, M4*12mm for unresponsive).
  4. Screw the two halves of the yoyo back together, ensuring they are tight but not overtightened.

3. Operating

3.1. Basic Throw and Return (Responsive Mode)

For responsive play, the yoyo is designed to return with a simple tug.

  1. Hold the yoyo between your thumb and middle finger, with your palm facing up.
  2. Flick your wrist downward to throw the yoyo. Ensure you use enough force so it spins at the end of the string.
  3. When you want the yoyo to return, give a gentle tug upwards with your hand. The yoyo should wind itself back up.

3.2. Unresponsive Play and Tricks

In unresponsive mode, the yoyo will not return with a tug. This allows for longer spin times and more complex string tricks (1A, 3A, 5A styles). To return an unresponsive yoyo, you must perform a 'bind' trick.

4. Maintenance

4.1. String Care and Replacement

Yoyo strings wear out over time. Replace your string regularly to maintain optimal performance and prevent breakage. Your package includes 12 replacement strings. Refer to Section 2.1 for instructions on attaching a new string.

4.2. Bearing and Axle Maintenance

Keep your yoyo's bearing clean and free of debris to ensure smooth spins. If the bearing becomes noisy or sluggish, it may need cleaning or replacement. Always use the correct axle (M4*10mm for responsive, M4*12mm for unresponsive) with the corresponding bearing type to prevent damage or slippage.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1. Yoyo Not Returning (Responsive Mode)

  • Check String Tension: If the string is too loose or too tight, it might affect responsiveness.
  • Bearing Condition: A dirty or damaged responsive bearing can prevent the yoyo from returning. Clean or replace the bearing if necessary.
  • Incorrect Axle: Ensure you are using the M4*10mm axle with the responsive bearing. Using the M4*12mm axle with a responsive bearing can cause issues.

5.2. Yoyo Not Spinning Smoothly

  • Bearing Cleanliness: Dirt or lint in the bearing can hinder smooth rotation. Use a bearing cleaning solution or compressed air to clean it.
  • String Quality: A worn or frayed string can create friction. Replace the string if it shows signs of wear.
  • Axle Tightness: Ensure the yoyo halves are screwed together firmly but not excessively tight, which can pinch the bearing.
