The Pro-Temp PT-80-OFR is a multi-fuel radiant heater designed to provide heat for well-ventilated outdoor spaces, such as construction sites, workshops, farms, or garages. It combines forced-air heat with radiant heat for effective warming.

Important Safety Information

  • FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY: This heater is designed for outdoor use only. Do not use indoors or in enclosed spaces. Adequate ventilation is crucial to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • RISK OF FIRE AND EXPLOSION: Use only approved fuels (K-1 kerosene, #1/#2 diesel/fuel oil, Jet A/JP8). Never use gasoline, paint thinners, or other highly flammable liquids. Always store fuel in an approved container away from the heater.
  • ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAZARD: Always use a properly grounded 3-prong outlet and extension cord. Never use the heater with a damaged cord or plug. Keep electrical connections dry.
  • BURN HAZARD: The heater becomes extremely hot during operation. Do not touch hot surfaces. Keep children, pets, and combustible materials (e.g., clothing, paper, chemicals) at a safe distance (minimum 8 feet from the front).
  • NEVER LEAVE HEATER UNATTENDED: Always monitor the heater during operation. Turn off and unplug the heater when not in use or before performing any maintenance.
  • FUELING: Do not overfill the fuel tank. Ensure the fuel cap is securely tightened after fueling.
  • VENTILATION: Ensure continuous and adequate ventilation. Refer to the user manual for specific ventilation requirements based on heating area.
  • MAINTENANCE: Disconnect power and allow the heater to cool completely before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

Unpacking and Assembly

Setup and Fueling

  1. Placement: Position the heater on a firm, level surface in a well-ventilated outdoor area. Ensure there are no combustible materials within 8 feet of the front of the heater.
  2. Fueling:
    • Ensure the heater is off and cool before fueling.
    • Use only clean K-1 kerosene, #1/#2 diesel/fuel oil, or Jet A/JP8 fuel.
    • Fill the fuel tank to at least half full, but do not overfill.
    • Securely tighten the fuel cap after filling.
  3. Power Connection: Plug the heater into a properly grounded 120V outlet.

Operating Instructions

  1. Starting the Heater:
    • Ensure the heater is properly fueled and connected to power.
    • Turn the power switch to the "ON" position.
    • The fan will start running, and after a few seconds, the heater will ignite.
    • During initial startup, it is normal to observe some smoke or flames from the end of the heater, and hear louder than normal noise. These conditions should subside after a few minutes. Multiple startup attempts may be needed.
  2. Shutting Down the Heater:
    • Turn the power switch to the "OFF" position.
    • The fan will continue to run for approximately 5 minutes to cool down the unit. Do not unplug the heater until the cooling cycle is complete.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your heater. Always disconnect power and allow the heater to cool completely before performing any maintenance.

  • Daily: Check for any visible damage, fuel leaks, or obstructions.
  • Weekly/Monthly: Clean the exterior of the heater. Inspect the power cord for damage.
  • Annually/Before Storage:
    • Drain any old fuel from the tank.
    • Clean the fuel filter and nozzle.
    • Inspect and clean the igniter and flame sensor.
    • Store the heater in a dry, well-ventilated area.
