Operating Instructions

The NICREW Electric Gravel Vacuum offers two primary functions: gravel cleaning and water changing.

1. Gravel Cleaning Mode

  • Preparation: Ensure the filter element top cover is installed.
  • Submerge: Place the nozzle end into the aquarium water. The motor will only activate when the water level reaches the minimum start-up line (approximately 8.5 inches from the bottom of the main unit). Ensure the vents at the base of the unit are fully submerged for optimal suction.
  • Activate: Press the power button to turn on the device.
  • Clean Gravel: Gently move the nozzle through the gravel. The suction will pull debris and waste into the filter element while allowing clean water to return to the tank. Avoid pressing too hard into the substrate to prevent disturbing beneficial bacteria.
  • Spot Cleaning: Ideal for quick spot maintenance to remove particles from the topmost layer of substrate.

2. Water Changing Mode

  • Preparation: Remove the filter element top cover and attach the siphon cap with the hose connector. Connect the provided hose to the siphon cap. Direct the other end of the hose into a bucket or drain.
  • Submerge & Activate: Follow the same submerging and activation steps as for gravel cleaning.
  • Drain Water: The device will pump water out of the aquarium through the hose. Monitor the water level to avoid removing too much water. It is recommended to change up to a maximum of 25% of your total aquarium water every 2 to 4 weeks to maintain a stable environment.

  2. Rinse: Rinse the filter element thoroughly under running tap water to remove all trapped debris and waste.
  3. Reassemble: Once clean, reinsert the filter element into the main unit.

If you notice a significant reduction in suction power, the impeller may be obstructed or dirty.

  1. Disassemble: Carefully disassemble the lower part of the main unit to access the impeller.
  2. Clean: Remove any debris, hair, or other obstructions from the impeller and its housing.
  3. Reassemble: Ensure all parts are reassembled correctly and securely.
