Setup
Initial Winding and Starting
Your Vostok Komandirskie watch is equipped with an automatic self-winding movement. It does not require battery replacement. To initiate operation after a period of inactivity, gently shake the watch or tap it lightly on your palm or a soft surface. This action helps to start the movement. Once started, the watch will continue to wind itself through the motion of your wrist while worn.
Setting the Time and Date
The watch crown has multiple positions for setting. To set the time and date:
- Unscrew the crown: Gently unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it is loose. This is Position 1.
- Pull out the crown: Carefully pull the crown outwards. This is Position 2, used for setting the time. Rotate the crown to adjust the hour and minute hands.
- Push in and screw down the crown: Once the time is set, push the crown back into Position 1 and screw it clockwise firmly against the watch case. This ensures water resistance.
The date function typically advances automatically. If manual adjustment is needed, it is usually done by rotating the hands past midnight until the correct date appears, then rotating back to 9 PM and forward again past midnight to advance the date one day at a time. Refer to the diagram below for visual guidance on crown positions.

Operating the Watch
Automatic Movement
The Vostok Komandirskie features an automatic self-winding movement. When worn regularly, the natural motion of your arm will keep the mainspring wound. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop. In such cases, follow the initial winding instructions to restart it.
Graduated Rotated Bezel
The watch is equipped with a graduated rotating bezel. This bezel can be rotated to mark elapsed time, useful for various activities. While it rotates, it does not click into place, which is a characteristic design feature.

Maintenance
Water Resistance (200m WR)
Your Vostok Komandirskie watch is rated for 200 meters (20 Bar) water resistance. This rating refers to the static pressure the watch can withstand. It is suitable for swimming and diving. Important: Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water. If the crown is not properly secured, water or mist may enter the watch, causing damage. After contact with salt water, rinse your watch with fresh water to preserve seals and maintain the movement's longevity.
Cleaning
To clean your watch, wipe the case and crystal with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, which can damage the finish or seals.
Troubleshooting
Watch Not Working
If your Vostok watch does not work after winding it up according to the manual, give the watch a good shake or gently knock it on your palm or a soft surface. This can help to engage the movement, especially if it has been stationary for a long time. This process is sometimes referred to as 'debut' to start the watch.
Loose Crown
The loose crown is a technical feature of Vostok watches. This design reduces the risk of the movement being pushed back into the case. The play in the crown is normal and contributes to its durability and ease of use. It does not indicate a defect.
