1. Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before assembly and use of this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or product damage.
- Anchoring: Always secure the canopy frame to the ground using appropriate anchors. Temporary spike anchors are included, but additional securing methods like weights or ground stakes are recommended, especially in windy conditions.
- Weather Conditions: This canopy is designed for seasonal shade and UV protection. It is not intended for use in severe weather conditions such as heavy winds, snow, or extreme rain. Remove the cover during such conditions to prevent damage to the structure and potential hazards.
- Assembly Caution: Exercise caution during assembly, disassembly, and handling of components. Wear appropriate safety gear, such as gloves, to prevent cuts or pinches.
- Weight Limits: Adhere to any specified weight limits for hanging items from the frame. The internal hook is for lightweight items only.
- Flammability: The cover material is CPAI-84 Section 6 fire-rated, but it is not fireproof. Keep all flame and heat sources away from the canopy fabric.
- Supervision: Do not allow children to play near or on the canopy during assembly or while in use without adult supervision.
2. Setup and Assembly
The ShelterLogic Redwood Canopy is designed for easy assembly. It is recommended that two people assemble the unit to ensure safety and efficiency.
2.1. Unpacking and Component Check
Carefully unpack all components and verify against the parts list provided in your packaging. Ensure all parts are present and undamaged before beginning assembly.
- 1 x Dark brown powder-coated steel frame
- 1 x One-piece Bronze cover (3-piece cover mentioned in description, clarify with actual product packaging)
- 1 x Complete hardware kit
- Temporary spike anchors
- Step-by-step instructions (refer to the printed manual for detailed diagrams)
2.2. Frame Assembly
Assemble the steel frame according to the detailed diagrams in your included instruction manual. The strong 2.4" x 2.4" square corner posts provide stability. Square tube leg posts feature threaded inserts for a solid roof-to-leg attachment. The four exterior 4" wide cross beam trusses create the structure's shape, with 8 beams supporting the roof.

2.3. Cover Attachment
Once the frame is fully assembled and secured, attach the bronze cover. The cover attaches easily with spring pins at the center and cotter pins along the perimeter. Ensure the cover is taut and evenly distributed over the frame.

2.4. Anchoring
Use the provided temporary spike anchors to secure the canopy legs to the ground. For increased stability, especially in areas prone to wind, consider using additional anchoring solutions such as concrete weights, heavy-duty ground stakes, or bolting the base plates to a solid foundation.
3. Operating Instructions
This canopy features an extendable awning for versatile shade options.
3.1. Extending the Awning
The unique vented roof includes a 10' x 6' extendable awning. To extend the awning, carefully pull it out from under the main canopy structure. Secure it in the extended position using the designated support poles and attachment points. This allows you to customize the amount of shade provided.

3.2. Retracting the Awning
To retract the awning, release the support poles and gently slide the awning back into its stored position under the main canopy. Ensure it is fully retracted and secured to prevent it from catching wind.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will extend the life and appearance of your ShelterLogic canopy.
- Cover Care: The 300 denier water-resistant cover will naturally deteriorate over time due to sun, wind, and rain exposure. Inspect the fabric regularly for tears or excessive wear. Replacement covers are available from ShelterLogic.
- Frame Care: The powder-coated steel frame is designed to resist corrosion and rust. However, prolonged exposure to elements may cause fading or minor surface rust. Consider applying a rust-inhibiting paint (e.g., Rustoleum) if fading occurs.
- Hardware: Periodically check all nuts and bolts for tightness. Spraying nuts and bolts with a lubricant like WD-40 annually can help prevent rust and ease future adjustments.
- Cleaning: Clean the canopy fabric with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the material or its UV protective coating.
- Seasonal Storage: For optimal longevity, consider disassembling and storing the canopy during off-seasons or periods of anticipated severe weather.
5. Troubleshooting
Addressing common issues to ensure safe and effective use of your canopy.
- Canopy Instability / Wind Damage: If the canopy feels unstable or has been damaged by wind, it is likely due to insufficient anchoring. Ensure the frame is securely anchored to the ground using appropriate methods. In high winds, the canopy cover should be removed.
- Water Pooling on Cover: Water pooling on the main canopy or the extended awning indicates that the fabric is sagging or not taut enough. Ensure the frame is correctly assembled and the cover is stretched tightly and evenly. Remove any accumulated water promptly to prevent damage and sagging.
- Bent Poles: Bent poles can occur from excessive stress due to wind, snow load, or improper assembly. Inspect all poles for damage. If poles are bent, contact customer support for replacement parts. Do not attempt to use a damaged frame.
- Difficulty with Awning Extension/Retraction: Ensure all moving parts of the awning mechanism are free of debris and lubricated if necessary. Check that the awning fabric is not snagged or misaligned.
