Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. The system is designed for under-sink installation. Refer to the detailed owner's manual for step-by-step instructions. Key steps include:
- Prepare the Installation Area: Ensure sufficient space under your sink for the RO unit and storage tank.
- Install the Faucet: Drill a hole in your countertop or sink for the dedicated RO faucet.
- Connect to Cold Water Supply: Use the provided feed water adapter to connect the system to your cold water line.
- Install the Drain Saddle: Attach the drain saddle to the drainpipe under your sink for wastewater discharge.
- Mount the RO Unit: Securely mount the main RO filter unit under the sink.
- Connect Tubing: Connect the various color-coded tubing lines between the feed water adapter, RO unit, storage tank, drain saddle, and faucet. Ensure all connections are secure and leak-free using JG Quick Connect fittings.
- Initial Flush: After installation, perform an initial flush to remove carbon dust and trapped air. This involves filling and draining the storage tank 2-3 times.

Operating Instructions
Once installed and flushed, your APEC Water Systems Ultimate RO-Hi is ready for use. Simply open the dedicated RO faucet to dispense purified water. The system will automatically refill the storage tank as water is drawn.
- First Use: After the initial flush, the first few gallons of water may contain residual carbon dust. It is recommended to discard these first few tankfuls until the water runs clear and tastes pure.
- Water Flow: The 3/8” fast-flow output ensures quick dispensing of water.
- Tank Capacity: The system includes a 4-gallon pre-pressurized water storage tank.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance, primarily filter replacement, is essential to ensure the continued high performance and longevity of your APEC Water Systems Ultimate RO-Hi. Adhere to the recommended replacement schedule:
- Sediment, Carbon Block, Inline, and pH Filters: Replace every 6 to 12 months.
- RO Membrane: Replace every 2 to 3 years, depending on water quality and usage.
- UV Bulb (if applicable): Replace every 12 months.
Even if the water tastes fine, filters lose their effectiveness over time. Staying on schedule ensures optimal filtration.

Troubleshooting
Encountering issues with your RO system? Here are common problems and their solutions:
- No Water from RO Faucet:
- Ensure feed water and tank valves are fully open.
- Check if the RO faucet is turned on.
- Allow 2-3 hours for the tank to fill after installation.
- Disconnect yellow tubing at the tank; if it sprays, the faucet may be the problem.
- Verify all tubing is securely seated deep into fittings.
- System Leaking:
- Immediately shut off feed and tank valves.
- Leaks often occur at tubing joints or filter housings. Remove and re-seat tubing, ensuring it's inserted 5/8 inch.
- Check O-rings for cleanliness, damage, and proper placement.
- For threaded leaks, wrap with Teflon tape and retighten.
- If a component is cracked, contact APEC support for replacement.
- Cloudy Water or Air Bubbles:
- This is normal after a filter change due to trapped air.
- Flush the system 2-3 full tank cycles.
- Gently tip the RO unit to release air from the housings.
- Alkaline filters may naturally release microbubbles from added minerals and oxygen.
- System Constantly Draining or Running:
- This may indicate pressure issues or a worn-out filter.
- Use a gauge to check home water pressure; ensure it's over 45 PSI.
- Replace filters if they are past 6-12 months.
- Check the shutoff valve for correct installation and function. A slight drain trickle is normal, but a constant stream is not.
- Low Water Pressure or Weak Faucet Flow:
- Check if the storage tank is full (lift it; if light, it's not full).
- Check the tank's air pressure (empty, should read 7-10 PSI) using a bike pump on the Schrader valve.
- Ensure the tank valve is open and tubing is not pinched.
- If still slow, it might be time to replace the RO membrane or inline filters.
- System Making Noise:
- Some noise is normal, especially during refill (clicking or a soft hiss is fine).
- Loud gurgling could mean your drain saddle needs realigning.
- Rattling might be tubing knocking around; secure it with clips or Velcro.
