1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Meike MK-7DRII PRO Vertical Power Battery Grip. This grip is designed to enhance the handling of your Canon EOS 7D Mark II DSLR camera, provide extended shooting time, and offer convenient vertical shooting controls. It also includes an IR remote control for wireless operation. Please read this manual carefully before use to ensure proper operation and to maximize the product's performance.

2. Product Overview

The Meike MK-7DRII PRO battery grip integrates essential camera controls for comfortable vertical shooting and extends battery life. It is a direct replacement for the Canon BG-E16 grip.

2.1 Main Components

  • Battery Grip Body: Main unit that attaches to the camera.
  • IR Remote Control: For wireless shutter release and other functions.
  • AA Battery Magazine: Holds 6 AA batteries.
  • Li-ion Battery Magazine: Holds one or two LP-E6N/LP-E6 lithium batteries.

4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Installing Batteries

  1. Ensure the camera is powered off.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover on the camera and remove the camera's battery.
  3. Insert the appropriate battery magazine (Li-ion or AA) into the battery grip.
  4. For Li-ion batteries: Insert one or two LP-E6N/LP-E6 batteries into the Li-ion battery magazine, ensuring correct polarity.
  5. For AA batteries: Insert 6 AA LR6 batteries into the AA battery magazine, observing correct polarity.
  6. Close the battery magazine securely within the grip.

4.2 Attaching the Battery Grip to the Camera

  1. Remove the battery compartment cover from your Canon EOS 7D Mark II camera. Store this cover in the designated slot on the battery grip to prevent loss.
  2. Align the battery grip's mounting screw with the camera's tripod socket.
  3. Insert the grip's electrical contacts into the camera's battery compartment.
  4. Rotate the grip's attachment wheel clockwise until the grip is securely fastened to the camera. Do not overtighten.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Vertical Shooting Controls

The battery grip provides duplicate controls for comfortable vertical shooting:

  • Shutter Release Button: Functions identically to the camera's shutter button.
  • Main Dial: Adjusts camera settings.
  • Multi-controller: For navigation and selection.
  • AF Point Selection Button: Selects autofocus points.
  • AE/FE Lock Button: Locks auto exposure or flash exposure.
  • AF Start Button: Initiates autofocus.
  • Multi-function Button: Customizable function.

5.2 Using the IR Remote Control

The remote control uses FSK 2.4G wireless transmission for stable signal and extended range.

  1. Powering On: Insert 2 AA batteries into the remote control, observing polarity.
  2. Shutter Release: Press the shutter button on the remote to trigger the camera's shutter. The remote can control the camera from up to 100 meters in open terrain.
  3. Screen Lock: To prevent accidental operation, press and hold the 'HOLD' button on the remote. A lock icon will appear on the LCD, indicating all keys are locked. Press 'HOLD' again to unlock.
  4. Clock Display: The remote's LCD displays a clock for precise time management during shooting sessions.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the battery grip and remote control dry. Do not expose to water or high humidity.
  • Clean the grip and remote with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using strong detergents or solvents.
  • When not in use for extended periods, remove batteries from both the grip and the remote control to prevent leakage.
  • Store the product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Grip Not Powering Camera

  • Ensure batteries are correctly inserted into the magazine with proper polarity.
  • Check if the battery magazine is fully inserted into the grip.
  • Verify that the grip is securely attached to the camera and the electrical contacts are clean.
  • Confirm that the batteries are charged (for LP-E6N/LP-E6) or fresh (for AA).

7.2 Remote Control Not Functioning

  • Check if the remote control's batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge.
  • Ensure the remote control is not in 'HOLD' (locked) mode.
  • Verify that there are no obstructions between the remote and the camera's IR receiver.
  • Operate within the specified 100m range and in open terrain for optimal performance.
