3. Spooling the Fishing Line:

  1. Open the bail arm of the spinning reel.
  2. Tie the end of the fishing line to the reel spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
  3. Close the bail arm.
  4. Hold the spool of new line so it can rotate freely.
  5. Begin reeling in the line, applying slight tension with your fingers to ensure it spools tightly and evenly onto the reel.
  6. Fill the spool to about 1/8 inch from the rim. Do not overfill.
  7. Thread the line through all the guide rings on the rod, starting from the reel to the tip.

Operating Instructions

1. Adjusting the Drag:

The drag system controls the amount of resistance the line experiences when a fish pulls on it. To adjust, turn the drag knob on the front of the spool. Turn clockwise to increase drag (tighter) and counter-clockwise to decrease drag (looser). Set the drag to approximately one-third of your line's breaking strength.

2. Casting:

  1. Hold the rod with your dominant hand, gripping the reel foot between your fingers.
  2. Use your index finger to hold the fishing line against the rod handle.
  3. Open the bail arm with your other hand.
  4. Bring the rod back over your shoulder, then swiftly cast it forward, releasing your index finger as the rod reaches a 45-degree angle to propel the lure.
  5. Close the bail arm manually or by turning the reel handle once the lure hits the water.

3. Retrieving Line:

Turn the reel handle to retrieve the line. The 5.5:1 gear ratio ensures efficient line retrieval. Maintain a steady retrieve speed appropriate for your lure and target fish.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your Sougayilang fishing gear.

After Each Use:

  • Rinse: If used in saltwater, rinse the rod and reel thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt residue. Avoid spraying water directly into the reel's internal components.
  • Wipe Down: Wipe the rod and reel with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Dry: Allow all components to air dry completely before storage.

Regular Maintenance:

  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of fishing reel oil to moving parts of the reel (e.g., handle shaft, line roller) and grease to gears. Refer to specialized fishing reel lubricants.
  • Line Inspection: Regularly inspect your fishing line for fraying, nicks, or wear. Replace line as needed.
  • Guide Rings: Check rod guide rings for any damage or sharp edges that could fray the line.
  • Storage: Store the rod and reel in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Retract the telescopic rod fully for storage.

Troubleshooting

  • Line Tangles/Twists:
Cause: Overfilling the spool, improper casting technique, or worn line roller.
Solution: Ensure spool is not overfilled. Practice smooth casting. Check line roller for smooth rotation and clean if necessary. Replace line if damaged.
  • Stiff Reel Handle:
Cause: Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris, or corrosion.
Solution: Clean the reel thoroughly and apply appropriate fishing reel oil to moving parts. If corrosion is present, professional servicing may be required.
  • Drag Slipping/Too Tight:
Cause: Drag washers are dry, worn, or improperly adjusted.
Solution: Adjust the drag knob. If issues persist, inspect drag washers for wear and lubricate with specialized drag grease if needed.
  • Rod Sections Sticking:
    Cause: Dirt, sand, or overtightening.
Solution: Gently twist and pull to separate. Clean the rod sections with fresh water and a soft cloth. Avoid overtightening when extending.
