This image displays the A&D Weighing Apollo Precision Toploading Balance. It features a stainless steel weighing pan, a digital LCD display, and control buttons for functions such as ON/OFF, CAL, MODE, SAMPLE, PRINT, and REZERO. The balance is designed for precise measurements in laboratory settings.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Basic Weighing

  1. Power On: Press the ON/OFF button. The display will show "0.00 g" or the last used unit.
  2. Zeroing: If the display does not show zero, press the REZERO button to set the display to zero.
  3. Placing Sample: Carefully place the item to be weighed on the center of the weighing pan.
  4. Reading Measurement: Wait for the stability indicator to appear on the display, then read the weight.
  5. Power Off: Press and hold the ON/OFF button to turn off the balance. The balance also features an Auto Shutoff function after 10 minutes of inactivity.

4.2. Changing Weighing Units

The balance supports multiple weighing units including g, oz, lb, lb-oz, ozt, ct, mom, dwt, grain, specific gravity, and custom units.

  • Press the MODE button repeatedly to cycle through the available weighing units until the desired unit is displayed.

4.3. Tare Function

To weigh a sample in a container, use the tare function:

  1. Place the empty container on the weighing pan.
  2. Press the REZERO button. The display will show "0.00 g" (or current unit), effectively taring the container's weight.
  3. Add the sample to the container. The display will show the net weight of the sample.

4.4. Flow Rate Display (FRD)

The Flow Rate Display (FRD) feature enhances accuracy and precision for dosing and filling applications. FR-Cal calculates, displays, and outputs the mass or volume flow rate. Consult the detailed operation manual (not included) for specific FRD and FR-Cal setup and usage instructions.

4.5. Min-S Alert

The Min-S alert ensures the balance operates within USP41 compliance by indicating if the minimum sample weight requirement is met for accurate measurement.

5. Features Overview

  • Super Hybrid Sensor (SHS) Technology: Combines magnetic force restoration and single point parallelogram load sensing for rapid response (1 second stabilization time) and high accuracy.
  • Electronically Controlled Load (ECL): Performs self-diagnostic tests and internal repeatability checks without external weights.
  • Standard Deviation (SD) Check: Allows for daily precision checks, ideal for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Impact Shock Detection (ISD): Visually and audibly indicates the magnitude of impact shocks. It documents the date, time, and shock level to help prevent sensor damage.
  • Non-Volatile Memory: Stores tare values and other weighing data, preventing data loss if an application is interrupted.
  • WinCT Software: Complementary software supports data collection and statistical analysis when connected to a computer via RS232 or USB interface.
  • Connectivity: Equipped with RS232 and USB interfaces for data output and communication.

6. Calibration

The A&D Weighing Apollo Precision Toploading Balance uses external calibration. Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your measurements.

  • External Calibration: This balance requires an external calibration weight (not included) for calibration.
  • One-Touch Calibration: The balance features an easy one-touch external calibration process.
  • Procedure:
    1. Ensure the balance is stable and level.
    2. Press the CAL button. The display will prompt you to place the specified calibration weight.
    3. Carefully place the correct external calibration weight on the center of the weighing pan.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the calibration process. The balance will document the calibration.
    5. Remove the calibration weight when prompted.

Refer to the full instruction manual for detailed calibration procedures and recommended calibration intervals.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning:
    • Always disconnect the power adapter before cleaning.
    • Wipe the balance exterior with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with mild detergent or isopropyl alcohol.
    • Do not allow liquids to enter the balance housing.
    • Remove the weighing pan and clean it separately if necessary.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the balance in a clean, dry, and stable environment.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the power cord and connections for any signs of damage.
