1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your Dino-Lite AM2111 USB Digital Microscope. This bundle also includes a Blucoil USB Type-A Mini Hub and a 3-FT USB 2.0 Type-A Extension Cable to enhance your connectivity options.

The Dino-Lite AM2111 is designed for convenient specimen research, allowing direct monitoring via Mac or Windows PC. It offers versatile optical magnification from 20x-50x and up to 200x, enabling observation of specimens at various distances without lens changes.

2. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Dino-Lite AM2111 Digital Microscope:

  1. Software Installation: Download and install the DinoCapture (for Windows) or DinoXcope (for Mac) software from the official Dino-Lite website. This software is essential for viewing live images, capturing photos, and recording videos.
  2. Connect the Microscope: Plug the USB 2.0 connector of the Dino-Lite AM2111 into an available USB port on your Mac or Windows PC.
  3. Using the Blucoil USB Hub (Optional): If your computer has limited USB ports or you need to extend connectivity, connect the Blucoil USB Type-A Mini Hub to a USB port on your computer. Then, plug the microscope into one of the hub's four USB 3.0 ports. The hub also features a micro-USB port for power-demanding devices (power adapter not included).
  4. Using the Blucoil USB Extension Cable (Optional): For extended reach, connect the Dino-Lite microscope's USB cable to the female end of the Blucoil 3-FT USB 2.0 Type-A Extension Cable, and then plug the male end of the extension cable into your computer or the Blucoil USB Hub.
  5. Launch Software: Once connected, open the DinoCapture or DinoXcope software. The live view from the microscope should appear on your screen.

3. Operating Instructions

The Dino-Lite AM2111 is designed for ease of use, whether handheld or mounted on a stand.

3.1. Adjusting Magnification

The AM2111 offers an adjustable optical magnification range from 20x-50x, and can achieve up to 200x magnification without needing to change lenses. Magnification is primarily controlled by the distance between the microscope's lens and the specimen, and fine-tuned with the focus dial.

  • Lower Magnification (Long Working Distance): When the microscope is further away from the specimen, it provides a lower magnification, a larger field of view, and a higher depth of field. This is ideal for observing larger areas or objects.
  • Higher Magnification (Short Working Distance): As you move the microscope closer to the specimen, the magnification increases, resulting in a smaller field of view and lower depth of field. This allows for detailed examination of microscopic features.

3.2. Capturing Images and Videos

The DinoCapture/DinoXcope software provides intuitive controls for capturing data:

  • Still Images: Click the camera icon within the software to capture a snapshot of the live view. Images can be saved in formats such as BMP, GIF, PNG, JPG, TIF, RAS, PNM, TGA, PCX, MNG, WBMP, JP2, JPC, PGX (Windows) or JPEG, PNG (Mac).
  • Video Recording: Use the video recorder function to capture live video footage. Videos can be saved in WMV, FLV, SWF formats (Windows).
  • Time-Lapsed Video: The software also supports time-lapsed video recording for observing changes over time.

3.3. Viewing Slides

The AM2111 can be used to view microscopic slides. Place the slide directly under the microscope's lens and adjust the distance and focus for clear observation. The software allows for advanced image processing and annotation.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Dino-Lite AM2111 microscope:

  • Cleaning the Lens: Use a soft, lint-free cloth or lens cleaning paper with a small amount of lens cleaning solution. Avoid abrasive materials that could scratch the lens.
  • Cleaning the Body: Wipe the microscope body with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the microscope in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Protect the lens from dust and scratches when not in use.
  • Cable Care: Avoid bending or twisting the USB cable excessively to prevent internal damage.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Dino-Lite AM2111, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Image on Screen:
    • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the microscope and the computer.
    • Verify that the DinoCapture/DinoXcope software is open and the correct device is selected.
    • Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer or using the Blucoil USB Hub.
    • Restart the software or your computer.
  • Blurry Image:
    • Adjust the focus dial on the microscope.
    • Vary the distance between the microscope and the specimen to find the optimal focal point for the desired magnification.
    • Ensure the specimen is well-lit.
  • Software Not Launching or Crashing:
    • Ensure your operating system meets the software requirements (Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10, Mac OS 10.9, and up).
    • Reinstall the DinoCapture/DinoXcope software.

  • Poor Image Quality:
    • Clean the microscope lens as described in the Maintenance section.
    • Ensure adequate lighting on the specimen.
