4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Preparation
- Ensure your computer is completely powered off and unplugged from the wall outlet.
- Open your computer case to access the power supply mounting area.
- If replacing an existing power supply, carefully disconnect all cables from the old PSU and remove it from the case.
4.2 Installing the Power Supply
- Gently slide the RM650x into the power supply bay of your computer case.
- Align the screw holes on the PSU with those on the case.
- Secure the power supply using the provided mounting screws.
4.3 Connecting Modular Cables
The RM650x is fully modular, meaning you only connect the cables required for your system. This helps reduce clutter and improve airflow.

Figure 3: The modular cable interface of the RM650x, showing clearly labeled ports for 24-pin ATX, CPU, PCIe, and peripheral/SATA connections.
- 24-pin ATX Cable: Connect the 24-pin cable to the corresponding port on the power supply and to the 24-pin ATX connector on your motherboard.
- EPS/CPU 4+4-pin Cable: Connect the 4+4-pin EPS cable to the CPU power port on the PSU and to the CPU power connector(s) on your motherboard. Modern motherboards typically require an 8-pin or sometimes an additional 4-pin connector.
- PCIe 6+2-pin Cables: For graphics cards, connect the 6+2-pin PCIe cables to the PSU and to the PCIe power connectors on your graphics card(s). Ensure all required connectors for your GPU are utilized.
- SATA Cables: Connect SATA power cables to the PSU and to your SATA devices such as SSDs, HDDs, and optical drives.
- Peripheral (Molex) Cables: Connect peripheral cables to the PSU and to any devices requiring Molex power connectors, such as older fans or accessories.
- Once all internal components are connected, plug the AC power cord into the power supply's AC inlet and then into a wall outlet.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Powering On
After all connections are secure, flip the power switch on the rear of the power supply to the 'I' (On) position. You can then power on your computer using the case's power button.
5.2 Zero RPM Fan Mode
The RM650x features a Zero RPM Fan Mode. This means the power supply fan will not spin at low to medium loads, resulting in silent operation. The fan will automatically activate when the load increases to maintain optimal cooling. This is normal operation and does not indicate a fault.
6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Corsair RM650x power supply, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the power supply and the fan grille to prevent dust buildup. Use compressed air to gently clear dust from the fan and vents. Ensure the power supply is unplugged before cleaning.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the power supply's intake and exhaust vents are not obstructed. Maintain adequate airflow within your computer case.
- Cable Management: Regularly check that all modular cables are securely connected and not interfering with case fans or other components.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your RM650x power supply, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power:
- Ensure the AC power cord is securely plugged into both the power supply and the wall outlet.
- Check that the power switch on the rear of the PSU is in the 'I' (On) position.
- Verify all modular cables (especially the 24-pin ATX and CPU cables) are firmly connected to both the PSU and the motherboard.
- Test the wall outlet with another device to confirm it is supplying power.
- Fan Not Spinning:
- The RM650x features Zero RPM Fan Mode. The fan will not spin at low loads. This is normal operation. The fan will activate when the system load increases.
- If the fan does not spin even under heavy load, ensure there are no obstructions and contact Corsair support.
- System Instability/Crashes:
- Ensure all power connections to your components (motherboard, CPU, GPU, drives) are secure.
- Verify that your system's power requirements do not exceed the 650W capacity of the PSU.
- If issues persist, consider testing components individually or consulting a professional.
