5. Setup

5.1. Battery Installation

1. Ensure the radio is turned off.
2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
3. Slide the cover down or unlatch it according to the design.
4. Insert the Li-ion battery pack, ensuring the contacts align correctly with the radio's terminals.
5. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it.

5.2. Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the battery. A full charge typically takes 3-4 hours.

1. Connect the charging adapter to a power outlet.
2. Plug the charging cable into the radio's charging port.
3. The charging indicator light (if present) will illuminate, typically red, during charging.
4. Once fully charged, the indicator light may change color (e.g., green) or turn off. Disconnect the charger.

5.3. Attaching the Belt Clip

Align the belt clip with the screw holes on the back of the radio and secure it with the provided screws.

6. Operation

6.1. Power On/Off

To turn the radio ON, rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise until you hear a click and the radio announces its channel. To turn the radio OFF, rotate the knob counter-clockwise until it clicks off.

6.2. Volume Adjustment

Rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise to increase the volume and counter-clockwise to decrease it.

6.3. Channel Selection

The ZETCOM N446 has 16 channels. To select a channel, rotate the Channel Selector knob (usually located next to the antenna) to your desired channel number. Ensure all radios in your group are on the same channel for communication.

6.4. Transmitting and Receiving

• To Transmit: Press and hold the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button, located on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone, holding the radio approximately 2-5 cm from your mouth. Release the PTT button when you finish speaking.
• To Receive: Ensure the PTT button is not pressed. The radio will automatically receive transmissions on the selected channel.

6.5. VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) Feature

The VOX feature allows for hands-free transmission. When activated, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice, without needing to press the PTT button. Refer to your radio's specific programming software or a combination of button presses (if available) to activate/deactivate and adjust VOX sensitivity.

6.6. Sub-channels (CTCSS/DCS)

The radio supports 1240 sub-channel options, which are privacy codes (CTCSS/DCS tones). These codes filter out unwanted conversations from other users on the same main channel. To communicate, both radios must be set to the same main channel and the same sub-channel code. These are typically programmed using software.
