Operating Instructions: Playing the TooT
Producing Sound with the FirstNote Lip Plate
The FirstNote lip plate is designed for ease of sound production, similar to a recorder. Simply place your lips around the mouthpiece and blow gently. The design directs the air to create a clear tone.
Producing Sound with the Standard Lip Plate
For a more traditional flute-like sound, use the Standard lip plate. This requires developing an embouchure similar to a full-size flute.
- Place your bottom lip against the edge of the sound hole on the lip plate.
- Close your mouth, leaving a small opening between your lips. Bring the corners of your mouth in tightly.
- Blow a steady stream of air across the sound hole, aiming for the far edge. Experiment with the angle and speed of your breath until a clear sound is produced.

Holding the TooT and Basic Fingering
Hold the TooT horizontally, similar to a flute. The silicone key pads make it easier for small hands to cover the holes effectively.
- Left Hand: Place your left thumb over the hole on the back of the instrument.
- Right Hand: Use your right pinky finger to cover the two holes at the very bottom.
- Note B: Cover the first hole with your left index finger, while keeping the left thumb and right pinky in position.
- Note A: Keep the left thumb and right pinky in position. Cover the first two holes with your left index and middle fingers.
- Note G: Keep the left thumb and right pinky in position. Cover the first three holes with your left index, middle, and ring fingers.

Maintenance
The Nuvo TooT 2.0 is completely waterproof, making cleaning simple and hygienic. It can be washed with warm, soapy water. Ensure all parts are thoroughly dried before reassembly and storage.
Troubleshooting
- No Sound or Weak Sound (Standard Lip Plate): Ensure your lips are correctly positioned over the sound hole, directing a focused stream of air across the edge. Adjust the angle and air pressure. Practice in front of a mirror to refine your embouchure.
- Loud, Uncontrolled Sound (Standard Lip Plate): You might have too much of the lip plate in your mouth. Try sliding the instrument out slightly and re-adjusting your embouchure.
- Keys Not Sealing: The silicone key pads are designed for a good seal. Ensure your fingers are covering the holes completely without any gaps.
