4. Setup and Installation
Before beginning installation, ensure all necessary tools and materials are available. Refer to local plumbing and electrical codes.
4.1 Unpacking

Figure 4: Contents of the product package, including the recirculating pump, water-stop, and instruction manual.
Carefully remove the pump and all accessories from the packaging. Verify that all components are present and undamaged:
- KolerFlo RS15-6 Recirculating Pump
- Water-stop (gaskets/seals)
- Instruction Manual (this document)
4.2 Placement
Install the pump in a location that is easily accessible for maintenance and protected from freezing temperatures. The pump should be installed on the hot water line, typically near the water heater or at the furthest fixture from the water heater, depending on the system design.

4.3 Plumbing Connections
The pump features 3/4 inch NPT inlet and outlet connections. Use appropriate brass fittings and thread sealant (e.g., PTFE tape) to ensure leak-free connections. The direction of water flow is indicated by an arrow on the pump housing.

Figure 6: Water outlet direction indicated on the pump body.
- Shut off the main water supply and drain the hot water line.
- Connect the pump to the hot water line using appropriate fittings. Ensure the flow arrow on the pump aligns with the direction of hot water circulation.
- Tighten all connections securely, but do not overtighten.
- Slowly open the main water supply and check for leaks.
4.4 Electrical Connections
The pump operates on 110-120V, 60Hz AC power. Ensure the power supply matches the pump's requirements. Connect the pump to a grounded outlet.
- Ensure the power cord is not pinched or damaged.
- If using a smart plug or timer, ensure it is rated for the pump's wattage (max 93W).

5. Operation
Once installed and connected, the pump is ready for operation.
5.1 Initial Start-up and Air Bleeding
- Ensure the system is filled with water and all valves are open.
- Turn on the power to the pump.
- Carefully open the exhaust screw on the front of the pump (refer to Figure 1) to release any trapped air. Close the screw once a steady stream of water emerges.
- The pump may make some noise initially as air is purged from the system. This should subside.
5.2 Speed Control

Figure 7: The three-speed control switch (1, 2, 3) allows adjustment of pump performance.
The KolerFlo RS15-6 pump features a three-speed control switch (1, 2, 3) located on the junction box. Each setting corresponds to a different flow rate, head, and power consumption:
- Setting 1 (Low): 46W, 13 ft (4 m) max head, 20 LPM (5.28 GPM) flow.
- Setting 2 (Medium): 67W, 16 ft (4.9 m) max head, 29 LPM (7.66 GPM) flow.
- Setting 3 (High): 93W, 20 ft (6 m) max head, 36 LPM (9.5 GPM) flow.
Select the speed setting that best suits your system's requirements for hot water circulation. Higher settings provide faster circulation but consume more power.
5.3 Benefits of Recirculation

Figure 8: Visual representation of improved water flow and faster hot water delivery with the recirculating pump.
The recirculating pump ensures hot water is readily available at your fixtures, reducing the waiting time and conserving water that would otherwise be wasted while waiting for hot water to arrive.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your pump.
- Annual Inspection: Check for any signs of leaks, corrosion, or unusual noises.
- Cleaning: Keep the exterior of the pump clean and free from debris.
- Air Bleeding: If the pump runs noisily or experiences reduced flow, re-bleed the air from the system as described in Section 5.1.
- Winterization: If the pump is installed in an unheated area, drain the system to prevent freezing damage during cold weather.
7. Troubleshooting
Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start | No power; Motor seized; Wiring issue | Check power supply and connections. Consult a qualified electrician if motor is seized or for wiring issues. |
| Reduced flow or no hot water | Air in system; Clogged impeller; Incorrect speed setting | Bleed air from the pump. Inspect and clean impeller. Adjust speed setting. |
| Pump is noisy | Air in system; Cavitation; Loose mounting | Bleed air from the pump. Ensure adequate water supply. Check mounting bolts. |
| Leaks at connections | Loose fittings; Damaged seals/gaskets; Improper thread sealant | Tighten connections. Replace seals/gaskets. Reapply thread sealant. |
If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, contact customer support or a qualified technician.
