Product Overview
The SAM Pelvic Sling II is a medical device designed to provide circumferential compression for pelvic fractures. It is intended for single-patient use by trained medical professionals. This manual provides instructions for the proper application, care, and maintenance of the device.
Important Safety Information
- Always follow local protocols and medical guidelines for pelvic fracture management.
- Ensure proper training before applying this device.
- Do not overtighten the sling; apply only enough force to achieve proper stabilization as indicated by the buckle's audible click.
- Regularly monitor the patient for signs of skin irritation or pressure sores.
- This device is for external use only.
- Keep out of reach of untrained individuals.
Setup and Application
Step 1: Assess Patient and Select Size
Ensure the patient requires pelvic stabilization. Select the appropriate sling size (Standard Size 32''-50'' for this model) based on the patient's hip circumference.
Step 2: Position the Sling
Carefully slide the SAM Pelvic Sling II under the patient's hips, ensuring the center of the sling is aligned with the greater trochanters (hip bones). The orange buckle should be positioned anteriorly (at the front).

Step 3: Engage the Buckle
Bring the black strap across the front of the patient and feed it through the orange buckle. Ensure the strap lies flat and is not twisted.

Step 4: Apply Compression
Pull the black strap firmly until the orange buckle clicks, indicating optimal compression. The buckle is designed to stop tightening once the correct compressive force (150 N / 33 lbs) is achieved, preventing overtightening.

Step 5: Secure Excess Strap
Secure any excess strap using the hook-and-loop fasteners to prevent snagging or interference.

Operating Instructions
Once applied, the SAM Pelvic Sling II provides continuous, stable compression. No further adjustment is typically required unless the patient's condition changes or the sling becomes dislodged.
Monitoring
Continuously monitor the patient's vital signs and the condition of the skin under the sling. Check for proper circulation and sensation in the lower extremities.
Radiolucency
The SAM Pelvic Sling II is radiolucent, meaning it can remain in place during X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs without interfering with imaging results. This minimizes the need for patient repositioning and reduces further injury risk.

Care and Maintenance
Cleaning
The SAM Pelvic Sling II is designed for single-patient use. If reuse is necessary in a training environment, the sling can be machine washed. Follow these guidelines:
- Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle.
- Do not bleach.
- Air dry only. Do not tumble dry.
- Do not iron.
- Do not dry clean.
Storage
Store the sling in a clean, dry environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
Sling Not Tightening
Ensure the black strap is correctly threaded through the orange buckle and pulled firmly until an audible click is heard. If the buckle does not click, check for obstructions or ensure the strap is not twisted.
Patient Discomfort
If the patient experiences discomfort, reassess the sling's position and tightness. Ensure the sling is centered and not causing excessive pressure on any single area. Adjust if necessary, while maintaining adequate pelvic stabilization.
Sling Slipping
Verify that the sling is positioned correctly around the greater trochanters and that the buckle has engaged properly. Ensure all hook-and-loop fasteners are securely attached.
