Setup and Installation
- Identify Mounting Location: Determine the appropriate location on your bimini top, boat top, support pole, or deck hinge where the quick release pin will be used. Ensure the location allows for secure fastening and proper function.
- Prepare Mounting Surface: If attaching the lanyard's base plate, ensure the surface is clean and flat. Mark the positions for the two screw holes on the base plate.
- Drill Pilot Holes: Using an appropriate drill bit for your material (wood, fiberglass, metal), drill pilot holes at the marked positions. Ensure the pilot holes are slightly smaller than the diameter of the provided screws to allow for a secure fit.
- Attach Lanyard Base Plate: Position the lanyard's base plate over the pilot holes and secure it using the provided 316 stainless steel screws. Tighten the screws firmly but avoid over-tightening to prevent stripping.
- Test Fit Pin: Insert the quick release pin into the intended hole on your equipment (e.g., bimini frame). The spring-loaded ball should compress and then expand to secure the pin in place. Ensure the pin passes through the hole smoothly and locks securely.
Operating Instructions
- To Insert the Pin: Align the pin with the hole in your equipment. Push the pin through the hole. The spring-loaded ball will retract as it passes through and then expand on the other side, securing the pin.
- To Remove the Pin: Grasp the ring of the pin. Pull the pin firmly to retract the spring-loaded ball, allowing it to be withdrawn from the hole.
- Lanyard Functionality: The attached lanyard ensures the pin remains connected to your equipment even when removed, preventing accidental loss, especially in marine environments.

Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean the pins with fresh water, especially after use in saltwater, to remove salt residue and prevent buildup.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the pins, lanyards, and screws for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Ensure the spring-loaded ball mechanism operates smoothly.
- Lubrication (Optional): For extremely smooth operation, a light application of marine-grade lubricant to the pin shaft and spring mechanism can be applied, though typically not required for 316 stainless steel.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the pins in a dry environment to prolong their lifespan.
Troubleshooting
- Pin is difficult to insert/remove: Ensure the hole is clear of obstructions and the pin is aligned correctly. Check for any bending or damage to the pin shaft or the spring mechanism. Clean any debris that may be impeding movement.
- Pin does not secure properly: Verify that the spring-loaded ball is extending fully after passing through the hole. If not, inspect for debris or damage to the spring mechanism. Confirm that the hole size is appropriate for the pin's diameter (1/4" or 6.3mm).
- Lanyard detaches: Check the crimps or attachment points of the lanyard to the pin and the base plate. If loose, re-crimp if possible, or replace the pin if the lanyard is permanently damaged.
