This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Positive Grid BIAS Mini Guitar Amplifier. 2. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your BIAS Mini Guitar Amplifier for the first time.

2.1 Rear Panel Connections Overview

2.2 Power Connection

Connect the supplied AC power cable to the POWER inlet on the rear panel of the BIAS Mini. Ensure the power cable is securely connected to a grounded power outlet. The unit supports AC 100-240V, MAX 10A, 50-60Hz.

2.3 Speaker Output

Connect your guitar speaker cabinet to the SPEAKER OUT jack. This output is designed for 4-16 Ohm speaker cabinets. NOTICE: Do not connect with effect units, DI boxes, powered speakers, or any other grounded devices to this output.

2.4 Instrument Input

Connect your guitar to the INPUT jack on the front panel of the amplifier.

2.5 Effects Loop (Send/Return)

The BIAS Mini includes a mono effects loop. Use the SEND and RETURN jacks to integrate your external effects pedals into the signal chain. This loop is seamless and will not mute when recalling patches.

2.6 MIDI Connectivity

The BIAS Mini features 1/8-inch connectors for MIDI IN and MIDI OUT, allowing for external control and synchronization. A dedicated adapter cable is included for these connections.

2.7 Footswitch Input

2.8 Line Out and USB

The LINE OUT provides a balanced XLR output for connecting to mixing consoles or audio interfaces. A GROUND LIFT switch is available to eliminate hum. The USB port allows connection to a Mac or PC for software integration and control.

2.9 Ventilation

Ensure that the vent holes on the rear panel are not covered to prevent overheating and ensure proper operation of the device.

3. Operating Instructions

The BIAS Mini Guitar Amplifier offers a straightforward interface for immediate use, along with advanced customization options via software.

3.1 Basic Controls

The front panel features standard amplifier controls:

  • Preset: Selects one of the 16 built-in custom amp presets.
  • Gain: Adjusts the input signal level and distortion.
  • Bass: Controls the low-frequency response.
  • Mid: Adjusts the mid-range frequency response.
  • Treble: Controls the high-frequency response.
  • Master: Adjusts the overall output volume.
  • Output Button: Toggles between amplifier, headphones, line output, and FX send to control the output destination.

The built-in 300 watts @ 4 ohms (150W@8Ω) Class D power amplifier provides ample power for various applications, from recording to live performances.

The BIAS Mini comes with the full version of BIAS AMP 2 Pro software. This software allows you to:

  • Modify virtual vacuum tubes, transformers, clipping diodes, and rectifiers in real-time.
  • Load custom Impulse Responses (IRs) and even send only the IR to the line output.

4.2 AMP Match Function

Utilize the AMP Match function within the BIAS AMP 2 Pro software to capture and reproduce the sound of any hardware amplifier. This allows you to digitally preserve the tone of vintage amplifiers or your favorite custom setups without concerns about physical wear and tear.

4.3 ToneCloud Integration

Positive Grid's ToneCloud, accessible via BIAS AMP/FX, is an extensive online community and repository of custom amplifier presets. You can:

  • Share your own custom tones with a global community of musicians.
  • Download thousands of custom amplifiers uploaded by artists, recording studios, and fellow guitarists.
  • Backup and download your presets to and from the cloud.

This feature provides endless possibilities for tone exploration and sharing.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your BIAS Mini Guitar Amplifier.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as they may damage the finish.
  • Storage: Store the amplifier in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • Ventilation: Always ensure that the ventilation holes are clear and unobstructed to prevent overheating.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BIAS Mini Guitar Amplifier, refer to the following common solutions:

Problem Possible Solution
No power Check if the power cable is securely connected to both the amplifier and the power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is functional.
No sound output Verify that your guitar is properly connected to the input. Check speaker connections and ensure the speaker cabinet is functional. Confirm the Master volume is turned up and the Output button is set to the correct output (e.g., Amplifier).
Distorted or unwanted noise Check instrument cables for damage. Ensure the Gain level is not excessively high. Utilize the built-in noise gate. If using the Line Out, try engaging the Ground Lift switch.
Cannot connect via Bluetooth/USB Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device and the amplifier is in pairing mode. For USB, check cable connections and ensure the correct drivers are installed on your computer. Restart both the amplifier and your computer/mobile device.
