3. Setup

The Z-88 keyboard is designed for plug-and-play functionality, requiring no additional drivers for basic operation.

3.1 Connecting the Keyboard

1. Locate the USB-C port on the back of the keyboard.
2. Connect the provided USB cable to the keyboard's USB-C port.
3. Connect the other end of the USB cable (USB-A) to an available USB port on your computer (Windows PC, Mac, PS, Xbox compatible).
4. The keyboard will automatically be detected and ready for use.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 RGB Backlighting Control

The Z-88 keyboard features dynamic RGB backlighting with multiple modes and customization options.

• Change Backlight Mode: Press FN + PGDN to cycle through 14 different backlight modes.
• Adjust Brightness: Press FN + ↑ (Up Arrow) to increase brightness, and FN + ↓ (Down Arrow) to decrease brightness (5 levels).
• Adjust Animation Speed: Press FN + ← (Left Arrow) to decrease animation speed, and FN + → (Right Arrow) to increase animation speed.
• Change Solid Color: In certain modes, press FN + '+' / '-' to change the color (7 solid colors available).
• Turn Off RGB Light: Press FN + PGDN repeatedly until the lights turn off, or use the brightness adjustment to set to the lowest level.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Keyboard

Regular cleaning helps maintain the keyboard's performance and appearance.

1. Disconnect the keyboard from your computer.
2. Use the included keycap puller to carefully remove keycaps for deeper cleaning.
3. Use compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keys.
4. Wipe the keycaps and keyboard surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid excessive moisture.
5. Ensure all components are dry before reattaching keycaps and reconnecting the keyboard.

6.2 Replacing Switches

The Z-88 features hot-swappable switches, allowing for easy replacement if a switch becomes faulty or if you wish to customize your typing experience.

1. Disconnect the keyboard from your computer.
2. Use the keycap puller to remove the keycap from the switch you wish to replace.
3. Use the included switch puller to gently grip the top and bottom clips of the switch and pull it straight up.
4. Align the pins of a new switch (Outemu compatible) with the holes on the PCB.
5. Press the new switch firmly into place until it clicks. Ensure it is seated correctly and not bent.
6. Replace the keycap.

7. Troubleshooting

• Keyboard Not Responding:
  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer.
  • Try connecting the keyboard to a different USB port on your computer.
  • Test the keyboard on another computer to rule out system-specific issues.
  • If the Windows key is locked (FN+WIN), unlock it.
• RGB Backlighting Not Working/Incorrect:
  • Ensure the brightness is not set to the lowest level (FN + ↑).
  • Cycle through backlight modes (FN + PGDN) to see if it responds.
  • Perform a factory reset (FN + ESC).
• Keys Not Registering:
  • Remove the keycap and switch (refer to Section 6.2) and check for any debris or damage.
  • Try replacing the faulty switch with one of the spare switches provided.
• Accidental Spills:
  • The keyboard is designed to be splash-proof. In case of a spill, immediately disconnect the keyboard from the computer.
  • Turn the keyboard upside down to drain any liquid.
  • Allow the keyboard to dry completely for at least 24-48 hours before reconnecting. Do not use heat to speed up drying.
