Setup and Adjustment
Proper adjustment of your backpack is crucial for comfort and load distribution.
- Torso Length Adjustment: The FAC Track features an adjustable gossamer polycarbonate frame. To adjust, loosen the shoulder strap webbing and slide the shoulder harness up or down along the frame until the top of the shoulder straps are approximately 1-2 inches below the top of your shoulders. Secure the webbing.
- Waist Belt Positioning: Position the padded waist belt so it rests comfortably on your iliac crest (hip bones). Cinch the waist belt securely to transfer most of the pack's weight to your hips.
- Shoulder Strap Tension: Tighten the shoulder straps until the pack feels snug against your back, but avoid overtightening, which can cause shoulder fatigue.
- Load Lifter Straps: Adjust the load lifter straps (located above the shoulder straps, connecting to the top of the pack) to pull the top of the pack closer to your body. This helps stabilize the load and prevent it from pulling backward.
- Sternum Strap: Fasten and adjust the sternum strap across your chest to pull the shoulder straps inward, preventing them from slipping and distributing weight across your chest.
Operating Instructions
Loading the Backpack
- Heavy Items: Place heavier items close to your back and centered within the main compartment for optimal balance.
- Medium Weight Items: Distribute medium-weight items around the heavy items.
- Lightweight/Bulky Items: Pack lighter, bulkier items towards the top and bottom of the pack.
- Frequent Access Items: Utilize external pockets for items you need to access quickly, such as snacks, maps, or a first-aid kit.
Hydration System Use
The FAC Track is designed with a dedicated sleeve for a hydration bladder. Insert your filled bladder into the designated compartment, feed the drinking tube through the port, and secure it to a shoulder strap for easy access.
MOLLE Webbing and Attachments
The external MOLLE webbing allows for the attachment of compatible pouches and accessories, expanding the pack's carrying capacity and customization options. Ensure all attachments are securely fastened to prevent loss.
Rain Fly Deployment
In adverse weather conditions, locate the integrated rain fly (typically stored in a dedicated pocket) and deploy it over the entire backpack to protect your gear from rain and moisture.
Maintenance
Cleaning
- Spot Cleaning: For minor dirt or stains, use a damp cloth with mild soap. Gently scrub the affected area and rinse with clean water.
- Deep Cleaning: For thorough cleaning, empty the pack completely. Hand wash with lukewarm water and a mild, non-detergent soap. Avoid harsh chemicals or bleach.
- Drying: Air dry the backpack completely in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, as this can damage the fabric and coatings.
Storage
Store your backpack in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Ensure it is clean and completely dry before storage to prevent mold or mildew growth.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Discomfort or Shoulder Pain | Improper fit; weight not distributed to hips. | Re-adjust torso length, waist belt, and shoulder straps. Ensure waist belt carries most of the load. |
| Pack feels unstable | Heavy items packed too far from the back; loose load lifter straps. | Repack heavy items closer to your back. Tighten load lifter straps and sternum strap. |
| Zippers sticking | Dirt or debris in zipper teeth. | Clean zipper teeth with a small brush and mild soap. Apply a zipper lubricant if necessary. |
