6. Setup and Installation
- Measure Cabinet: Measure the inside width of your file drawer from left-to-right where the hanging folders will reside. This is referred to as the "A" Dimension in Figure 1.
- Verify Dimensions: Compare your measurement to the "A" Dimension chart in Figure 1 to ensure you have the correct bar length for your cabinet size. Note that file cabinet sizes are based on their outside dimensions, and file bar actual lengths are slightly shorter to accommodate slide bearings.
- Identify Slot Style: Confirm that the slots on your drawer wall match the "Shape of Slot In Drawer Wall" diagram in Figure 1. The slot should be 2" high and 1/16" wide.
- Insert Bar: Take one file bar. Insert one end of the bar into the corresponding slot on one side of the drawer wall.
- Secure Second End: Gently compress the bar slightly if needed, then align and insert the other end of the bar into the slot on the opposite drawer wall. The bar should fit snugly and securely.
- Repeat: Install all remaining file bars in the same manner.
The installation process is designed to be straightforward, similar to installing the original factory parts.
7. Operating and Usage
Once installed, the file bars provide a stable platform for hanging folders. Simply place your hanging folders onto the file bars, ensuring they are evenly distributed to prevent excessive weight on any single section. The bars are designed to support a full cabinet load of paper.
8. Maintenance
These galvanized steel file bars require minimal maintenance. For cleaning, a simple hand wash with a damp cloth is sufficient. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the galvanized finish. Ensure the bars are dry after cleaning to prevent any potential corrosion.
9. Troubleshooting
- Bars do not fit: Re-verify your cabinet's lock style and internal dimensions against the compatibility section and Figure 1. Ensure your cabinet is a "Turn Key Lock Style" Herman Miller Meridian MR66XX series.
- Bars seem loose: Ensure both ends of the bar are fully seated within the drawer wall slots. The bars are designed for a snug fit.
- Bars are bending/twisting: These bars are constructed from heavy-duty 18 gauge galvanized steel to resist bending. If bending occurs, verify that the cabinet load is within reasonable limits and that the bars are correctly installed. Contact support if the issue persists.
