4. Setup and Assembly

4.1. Battery Installation

The BCG720N-XJ is supplied without a battery. Ensure you use a compatible 18V Lithium-ion battery pack from BLACK+DECKER.

  1. Align the battery pack with the receptacle on the tool's base.
  2. Slide the battery pack into the tool until it locks securely in place.
  3. To remove, press the release button on the battery pack and slide it out.

4.2. Accessory Installation (Discs)

Always ensure the tool is switched off and the battery is removed before changing accessories.

  1. Press and hold the spindle lock button.
  2. Use the spanner wrench to loosen the clamping nut and remove the old disc.
  3. Place the new disc onto the spindle, ensuring it is correctly seated.
  4. Tighten the clamping nut firmly with the spanner wrench while holding the spindle lock button.
  5. Ensure the guard is properly positioned for the type of disc being used (grinding or cutting).

4.3. Side Handle Adjustment

The side handle can be positioned in three different locations for optimal control and comfort.

  1. Unscrew the side handle from its current position.
  2. Screw the side handle into one of the alternative threaded holes on the gear housing.
  3. Tighten securely.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Switching On and Off

  • To switch the tool on, slide the lock-off switch forward and then press the on/off switch.
  • To switch the tool off, release the on/off switch.
  • For continuous operation, slide the lock-off switch forward and then press the on/off switch and slide it into the locked position.
  • To switch off from continuous operation, press the on/off switch again and release it.

5.2. General Operation Tips

  • Always hold the tool with one hand around the side handle and the other hand around the main handle.
  • When grinding, always maintain an angle of approximately 20°-30° between the disc and the workpiece surface.
  • Do not apply excessive pressure; let the tool's speed and the disc's abrasive action do the work.
  • For cutting, ensure the cutting disc is perpendicular to the workpiece.

6. Maintenance

Your BLACK+DECKER cordless angle grinder has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.

  • Warning! Before doing any maintenance on cordless power tools, switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/tool.
  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the ventilation slots of your appliance/tool using a soft brush or dry cloth.
  • Housing: Clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaners.
  • Battery Care: If the battery pack is hot, allow it to cool down before charging. Unplug the charger before cleaning it. Your charger does not require any maintenance other than regular cleaning.
