Setup Guide
1. Unpacking the Printer
Carefully remove the printer from its packaging. Ensure all packing materials, tapes, and protective films are removed from the printer. Verify that the following components are included:
- HP LaserJet 1320 Printer unit
- Power cord (may need to be purchased separately for renewed units)
- Toner cartridge (may need to be purchased separately for renewed units)
2. Connecting the Printer
The HP LaserJet 1320 supports both USB and Parallel connections.
- Power Connection: Connect the power cord to the printer and then to a grounded electrical outlet.
- Data Connection:
- USB Connection: Connect one end of a USB cable (not included) to the USB port on the printer and the other end to an available USB port on your computer.
- Parallel Connection: Connect one end of a parallel cable (not included) to the parallel port on the printer and the other end to the parallel port on your computer.
3. Installing the Toner Cartridge
Follow these steps to install the toner cartridge:
- Open the front access door of the printer.
- Remove the new toner cartridge from its packaging. Gently shake the cartridge side-to-side to distribute the toner evenly.
- Remove any protective tapes or seals from the cartridge as indicated by the manufacturer.
- Align the cartridge with the guides inside the printer and push it firmly until it clicks into place.
- Close the front access door.
4. Loading Paper
The printer has a 250-sheet input tray.
- Pull out the paper input tray located at the bottom front of the printer.
- Adjust the paper guides to the correct paper size (e.g., Letter, A4). The maximum media size supported is A4/Letter.
- Load the paper stack into the tray, ensuring it is flat and fits snugly between the guides. Do not overfill the tray.
- Push the paper tray back into the printer until it locks into place.
Note on Manual Feed Slot: The HP LaserJet 1320 features a manual feed slot, which is designed for single-sheet feeding of special media. This slot does not hold a stack of paper; sheets must be inserted one at a time. This design is for specific printing needs, such as envelopes or thicker media, and is not a substitute for the main paper tray.
5. Installing Printer Software and Drivers
After connecting the printer, install the necessary drivers on your computer. The printer requires 2 drivers for full functionality.
- Insert the driver CD (if provided) into your computer's CD/DVD drive, or download the latest drivers from the official HP support website.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the driver installation.
- Restart your computer if prompted.
