2. Safety Instructions
Always read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before operating the device. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear appropriate eye protection, sturdy footwear, and gloves during operation.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the device's specifications (230 V, 50 Hz). Use a residual current device (RCD) for outdoor use. Do not operate in wet conditions.
- Work Area: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Remove any obstacles or debris that could interfere with operation. Keep bystanders, especially children, away from the work area.
- Handling: Always hold the device firmly with both hands. Avoid overreaching. Maintain proper footing and balance at all times.

4. Setup and Assembly
Before first use, assemble the joint cleaner according to the following steps. Ensure the device is disconnected from the power supply during assembly.
4.1 Attaching the Auxiliary Handle

- Loosen the locking mechanism on the auxiliary handle.
- Slide the auxiliary handle onto the main shaft to your desired working position.
- Tighten the locking mechanism to secure the handle.
4.2 Installing the Brush
The GFR 401 features a tool-free brush change system.

- Ensure the device is unplugged.
- Press the black plastic quick-release system (with 3 fingers) fully downwards.
- Insert the desired brush (nylon or metal) onto the spindle until it clicks into place.
- Release the quick-release system to secure the brush. Gently pull on the brush to ensure it is firmly seated.
4.3 Adjusting Working Height
The aluminum tube is height-adjustable from 89 cm to 114 cm to allow comfortable working in an upright posture.
- Loosen the locking collar on the main shaft.
- Extend or retract the shaft to your preferred working height.
- Tighten the locking collar securely.
5. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your GÜDE GFR 401 Joint Cleaner.
5.1 Before Starting
- Ensure all components are correctly assembled and secured.
- Select the appropriate brush for the task:
- Nylon Brush: Suitable for light to moderate moss and dirt, and for sensitive surfaces.
- Metal Brush: Recommended for stubborn weeds, heavy moss, and robust surfaces like concrete or paving stones. Use with caution on delicate surfaces to avoid scratching.
- Connect the device to a suitable power outlet, ensuring the cable is managed safely using the strain relief.
5.2 Starting and Using the Device

- Hold the main handle and the auxiliary handle firmly.
- Press the safety switch (if present) and then the trigger to start the motor.
- Guide the device along the joints, allowing the guide wheel to assist in maintaining a straight line.
- Apply gentle, even pressure. Do not force the brush into the joints.
- Move the device slowly and steadily to ensure thorough cleaning.
- To stop the device, release the trigger.

6. Maintenance and Storage

6.1 Cleaning
