2. Setup and Installation

2.1 Mounting the Router Lift into a Table

The Kreg PRS5000 Precision Router Lift is designed to be installed into a router table. Ensure your router table has an opening compatible with the lift's dimensions (3/8" x 9 1/4" x 11 3/4").

  1. Carefully place the router lift into the designated opening in your router table.
  2. Secure the lift to the table using the provided mounting hardware. Ensure it is flush with the table surface for optimal performance.

2.2 Installing a Router into the Lift

The router lift accommodates over 20 popular router models without modification. Follow these steps to install your router:

  1. Position the clamp blocks on the heavy-duty router carriage to match the base of your router.
  2. Slide your router into the carriage, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  3. Tighten the locking bolt on the carriage to secure the router firmly in place.

3. Operation

3.1 Changing Router Bits

The PRS5000 allows for convenient above-table bit changes, eliminating the need to reach under the table or remove the router entirely.

  1. Use the adjusting crank to raise the router bit fully above the table surface.
  2. Access the collet from above the table. Use appropriate wrenches to loosen the collet nut and remove the current bit.
  3. Insert the new router bit into the collet and tighten the collet nut securely.
  4. Lower the bit to the desired cutting depth using the adjusting crank.

3.2 Adjusting Bit Height

Precise bit height adjustments are made using the adjusting crank and the micro-adjust scale.

  1. Insert the adjusting crank into the designated slot on the router lift plate.
  2. Turn the crank to raise or lower the router bit. Each full revolution of the crank moves the bit by exactly 1/16 of an inch.
  3. Utilize the built-in micro-adjust scale for even finer adjustments. This scale allows for tracking changes down to 1/1000 of an inch.
  4. To establish a baseline, the scale can be adjusted to zero at any point, allowing you to precisely track movements from that reference.
  5. Once the desired bit height is set, use the locking mechanism to secure the carriage in position, ensuring consistent cuts.
