4. Setup

4.1 Attaching the Side Handle and Depth Gauge

1. Loosen the side handle clamp by twisting it counter-clockwise.
2. Slide the side handle onto the tool's collar until it is in a comfortable and secure position.
3. Insert the depth gauge into the hole on the side handle. Adjust it to the desired drilling depth.
4. Tighten the side handle clamp by twisting it clockwise to secure both the handle and the depth gauge.

4.2 Inserting Drill Bits and Chisels

1. Ensure the tool is unplugged from the power source.
2. Pull back the chuck sleeve and hold it in this position.
3. Insert the drill bit or chisel into the chuck, rotating it slightly until it clicks into place.
4. Release the chuck sleeve. Pull on the accessory to ensure it is securely locked. A slight axial play is normal for SDS-type chucks.

Note: Always use accessories designed for rotary hammers (SDS-Plus shank).

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Selecting Operating Mode

The Hilti TE 3-C features a mode selector switch located on the side of the tool. Rotate the switch to select the desired operating mode:

• Rotary Drilling (Drill Symbol): For drilling in wood, metal, and plastics. No hammering action.
• Hammer Drilling (Hammer and Drill Symbol): For drilling in concrete, masonry, and stone. Combines rotation with hammering action.
• Chiseling (Chisel Symbol): For light chiseling, chipping, and demolition work. Rotation is disengaged, only hammering action.

Caution: Always ensure the tool is switched off before changing the operating mode to prevent damage to the gearbox.

5.2 Starting and Stopping the Tool

• To Start: Plug the tool into a 120V power outlet. Press the trigger switch. The tool speed is variable depending on how far the trigger is pressed.
• To Stop: Release the trigger switch.
• Continuous Operation: For continuous operation, press the trigger switch and then press the lock-on button. To release, press the trigger switch again.

5.3 Working Techniques

• Drilling: Apply steady, even pressure. Do not force the tool. Allow the tool to do the work.
• Hammer Drilling: The hammering action requires minimal pressure. Guide the tool and let the hammer mechanism work effectively.
• Chiseling: Hold the tool firmly with both hands. Position the chisel at the desired angle and apply controlled pressure.
