2. Safety Instructions

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

3.2 Battery Installation (Battery not included with WG322E.9)

This model (WG322E.9) is supplied without a battery and charger. Ensure you have a compatible WORX 20V PowerShare battery and charger. To install the battery:

1. Ensure the chainsaw is switched off.
2. Align the battery pack with the battery port on the chainsaw.
3. Slide the battery pack into the port until it clicks securely into place.
4. To remove, press the battery release button and slide the battery out.

3.3 Chain and Bar Installation

The chainsaw features a tool-free chain tensioning system. Follow these steps to install the chain and guide bar:

1. Place the chainsaw on a flat, stable surface.
2. Loosen the chain cover knob by turning it counter-clockwise and remove the chain cover.
3. Carefully place the chain around the sprocket and guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges face the correct direction (refer to the arrow on the guide bar).
4. Fit the guide bar onto the mounting studs, ensuring the chain is properly seated in the guide bar groove.
5. Replace the chain cover and tighten the knob clockwise until snug. Do not overtighten yet.

3.4 Chain Tensioning

Proper chain tension is crucial for safe and efficient operation. The WG322E.9 features automatic chain tensioning, but initial adjustment is required:

1. With the chain cover knob slightly loose, lift the tip of the guide bar.
2. Turn the chain tensioning ring (usually located near the chain cover knob) clockwise to increase tension, or counter-clockwise to decrease tension.
3. The chain is correctly tensioned when it can be pulled away from the guide bar by approximately 2-3 mm at the center, and it moves freely around the guide bar without binding.
4. Once tension is set, firmly tighten the chain cover knob.

3.5 Filling the Chain Oil Reservoir

The chainsaw has an automatic chain lubrication system. It is essential to keep the oil reservoir filled with appropriate chain and bar oil.

1. Ensure the chainsaw is switched off and the battery is removed.
2. Locate the oil filler cap (typically on the top or side of the chainsaw body).
3. Unscrew the cap and carefully pour chain and bar oil into the reservoir. The reservoir capacity is approximately 130 ml.
4. Monitor the oil level indicator to avoid overfilling.
5. Replace the oil filler cap securely.

Note: Always use high-quality chain and bar oil. Do not use waste oil or thin oils, as this can damage the pump and chain.

4. Operation

4.1 Pre-Operation Checks

• Verify chain tension.
• Check oil level in the reservoir.
• Ensure all fasteners are tight.
• Confirm the battery is fully charged and securely installed.
• Clear the work area of obstacles and bystanders.

4.2 Starting and Stopping the Chainsaw

1. Starting: Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands. Press the safety lock-off button (usually on the side of the handle) and then squeeze the trigger switch. The chain will begin to move.
2. Stopping: Release the trigger switch. The chain brake will engage, and the chain will stop quickly.

4.3 Cutting Techniques

Always maintain a firm grip and stable footing. Plan your cut before starting. For optimal performance and safety:

• Felling small trees: Make a notch cut on the side of the tree in the direction of the fall, then make a felling cut from the opposite side, slightly above the notch.
• Limbing: Remove branches from a fallen tree. Start from the base of the tree and work towards the top. Be aware of branches under tension.
• Bucking: Cutting a fallen log into smaller sections. Support the log to prevent pinching. If cutting a log supported at both ends, cut from the top down about one-third of the way, then finish from the bottom up to meet the first cut.
• Automatic Chain Lubrication: The chainsaw automatically lubricates the chain during operation. Periodically check for oil discharge by holding the chainsaw over a light-colored surface and running it briefly. A line of oil should be visible.

5.1 Cleaning

• After each use, clean the chainsaw body with a damp cloth.
• Remove the chain cover and clean out sawdust, wood chips, and debris from the sprocket area, guide bar groove, and chain.
• Ensure the oil reservoir and oil passages are clear.

5.2 Chain Sharpening

A sharp chain is essential for efficient cutting and safety. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when dull. Refer to the chain manufacturer's instructions for proper sharpening angles and file sizes. If unsure, have the chain sharpened by a qualified service technician.

5.3 Guide Bar Maintenance

• Periodically remove the guide bar and clean the groove to remove accumulated sawdust and debris.
• Check the guide bar for wear, especially on the rails. Rotate the guide bar periodically to ensure even wear.
• Ensure the oil hole on the guide bar is clear.

5.4 Storage

When storing the chainsaw for extended periods:

• Remove the battery.
• Empty the chain oil reservoir.
• Clean the chainsaw thoroughly.
• Apply a light coat of oil to the chain and guide bar to prevent rust.
• Store in a dry, secure location out of reach of children.
