6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Extending and Retracting the Awning

Your Outsunny awning operates manually using the provided crank handle.

  • To extend the awning: Insert the crank handle into the designated loop and turn it clockwise. Continue turning until the awning reaches your desired extension, up to its maximum projection of 96.5 inches.
  • To retract the awning: Insert the crank handle into the designated loop and turn it counter-clockwise. Continue turning until the awning is fully retracted against the wall.

6.2 Adjusting the Awning Angle (Pitch)

The awning's angle can be adjusted to provide optimal shade. This adjustment is typically done by loosening a locking screw and then turning an adjustment screw on the extension arm mechanism.

  • Locate the adjustment mechanism on the extension arms.
  • Loosen the locking screw (if present) that secures the arm's position.
  • Adjust the angle by turning the appropriate screw. The angle can typically be adjusted between 45-85 degrees.
  • Once the desired angle is achieved, tighten the locking screw to secure the position.
  • Ensure both arms are adjusted to the same angle for even extension.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help prolong the life and appearance of your awning.

  • Cleaning the Fabric: Clean the polyester fabric with mild soap and water. Use a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry completely before retracting. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Frame Inspection: Periodically inspect the aluminum and steel frame for any signs of rust, corrosion, or loose fasteners. Tighten any loose bolts or screws.
  • Crank Mechanism: Ensure the manual crank mechanism operates smoothly. If it becomes stiff, apply a silicone-based lubricant to moving parts, avoiding contact with the fabric.
  • Weather Protection: Always retract the awning during strong winds, heavy rain, snow, or when not in use for extended periods to protect it from damage.

8. Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:

  • Awning does not extend/retract smoothly: Check for obstructions in the mechanism or fabric. Ensure the crank handle is properly engaged. Lubricate moving parts if necessary.
  • Awning extends unevenly: Verify that both extension arms are adjusted to the same pitch/angle. Re-adjust as needed following the instructions in Section 6.2.
  • Fabric sags or pools water: Ensure the awning is extended with sufficient pitch to allow water runoff. Retract the awning during heavy rain.
  • Awning feels unstable: Re-check all mounting hardware and ensure it is securely fastened to a sturdy surface.
