StarNY HP-10 Digital Torque Meter User Manual

Model: HP-10

1. Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the StarNY HP-10 Digital Torque Meter. The HP-10 is a precision instrument designed for measuring and testing the torque of various tools, including electric screwdrivers, pneumatic screwdrivers, torque screwdrivers, and torque wrenches. It is also suitable for correcting the torque of these tools and measuring the torque of other fixtures.

Its simple operation, high accuracy, and portability make it ideal for a wide range of industrial and service applications.

2. Safety Information

Please read all safety warnings and instructions carefully before operating the device.

  • Do not exceed maximum allowable load: Applying torque beyond the specified range can damage the instrument and void the warranty.
  • Do not continuous impact: Avoid sudden, high-impact forces on the measurement head.
  • Charging: When "LO" or "CHG" is displayed, charge quickly. Charging time should not exceed six hours. When charging the battery, keep the power ON.
  • Battery: Do not detach the rechargeable battery from the main unit.
  • Serial Number: Do not remove the main unit and charger serial numbers.
  • Adapter: Do not leave or store the adapter with its string coiled.
  • Voltage: The device operates on 6 volts DC. Ensure the correct power adapter is used.

4. Setup

4.1 Initial Charging

Before first use, or if the battery indicator shows "LO" or "CHG", the device needs to be charged. The HP-10 uses five 1.2V NiMH cells (1000mA) and offers approximately 96 hours of continuous running time on a full charge.

  1. Ensure the power switch is in the ON position.
  2. Connect the provided AC adapter to the DC IN port on the back of the unit.
  3. Plug the AC adapter into a suitable power outlet (AC 110-220V 50Hz).
  4. Allow approximately 6 hours for a full charge. The device features automatic charge control.

Note: The battery life is approximately 300 charges.

4.2 Powering On/Off

To power on the device, slide the Power Switch to the ON position. To power off, slide it to the OFF position.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Unit Selection

The HP-10 supports three common torque units: Kgf.Cm, Lbf.in, and Nm. To switch between units, use the Unit Switch located on the front panel.

  • Kgf.Cm: Kilogram-force centimeter
  • Lbf.in: Pound-force inch
  • Nm: Newton meter

5.2 Zero Adjustment

Before taking a measurement, it is crucial to zero the display to ensure accuracy.

  1. Ensure no load is applied to the square drive socket.
  2. Rotate the Zero Adjust Knob until the display reads "0.000" (or close to zero, depending on the selected unit and range).
  3. Press the RESET button to confirm zero.

5.3 Measurement Modes

The HP-10 offers two measurement modes: Peak Hold and Track.

  • PEAK Mode: In this mode, the display will hold the maximum torque value detected during the measurement. This is useful for capturing the peak torque applied.
  • TRACK Mode: In this mode, the display shows the real-time torque value as it is being applied. This is useful for observing continuous torque changes.

To switch between modes, use the Mode Switch.

5.4 Taking a Measurement

  1. Power on the device and select the desired unit.
  2. Perform a zero adjustment as described in Section 5.2.
  3. Select the appropriate measurement mode (PEAK or TRACK).
  4. Connect the torque tool (e.g., screwdriver, wrench) to the square drive socket.
  5. Apply torque to the tool. Observe the reading on the digital display.
  6. For PEAK mode, the highest value will be held. For TRACK mode, the value will update in real-time.
  7. After measurement, remove the tool.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your HP-10 Digital Torque Meter.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in its protective carrying case in a dry, cool environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: Recharge the battery when indicated. Avoid completely draining the battery for extended periods. If storing for a long time, charge the battery periodically.
  • Calibration: For continued accuracy, periodic calibration by a qualified technician is recommended.
