Operation

The Milbank U8032-XL-KK-BLG meter socket is a passive component designed to house an electric utility meter and provide connection points for electrical service. Its operation is primarily dependent on the utility meter installed within it and the electrical service connected to it.

  • Power Flow: Electricity flows from the utility service through the line side terminals, passes through the meter (which measures consumption), and then exits through the load side terminals to the premises' electrical system.
  • Horn Bypass: This model includes a horn bypass feature, which allows the utility to bypass the meter for maintenance or testing without interrupting power to the customer, provided the utility's procedures are followed. This is an internal utility function and not for user operation.
  • Ringless Design: The ringless design simplifies meter installation and removal for utility personnel.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance of the meter socket itself is minimal due to its robust construction. However, periodic inspections are recommended to ensure continued safe and reliable operation.

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the exterior of the meter socket for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or tampering.
  • Enclosure Integrity: Ensure the enclosure remains sealed and free from moisture or debris ingress.
  • Pest Control: Keep the area around the meter socket clear of vegetation and debris to prevent pest infestations that could damage wiring.
  • Professional Inspection: For internal inspections or any concerns regarding wiring or connections, contact a qualified electrician or your local utility company. Do not attempt to open the meter socket or tamper with internal components yourself.

Troubleshooting

Most issues related to a meter socket are typically handled by the utility company or a licensed electrician. Do not attempt to diagnose or repair electrical issues within the meter socket yourself.
