4. Camera Overview

5. Setup
5.1. Charging the Battery
- Insert the battery pack LP-E5 into the battery charger LC-E5 / LC-E5E.
- Plug the charger into a power outlet. The charging lamp will illuminate orange.
- Charging is complete when the lamp turns green. This typically takes about 2 hours.
5.2. Inserting the Battery and Memory Card
- Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert the charged battery pack with the electrical contacts facing inward until it locks into place.
- Open the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera.
- Insert an SD/SDHC memory card with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks.
- Close both covers securely.
5.3. Attaching a Lens
- Remove the rear lens cap and the camera body cap.
- Align the red dot on the lens with the red dot on the camera's lens mount.
- Turn the lens clockwise until it clicks into place.
6. Operating the Camera
6.1. Power On/Off
Set the power switch to ON to turn on the camera. To turn off, set the switch to OFF.
6.2. Basic Shooting Modes
Rotate the mode dial to select a shooting mode:
- Full Auto (Green Square): Camera automatically sets all parameters. Ideal for beginners.
- Program AE (P): Camera sets shutter speed and aperture, but you can adjust other settings.
- Shutter-priority AE (Tv): You set shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
- Aperture-priority AE (Av): You set aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
- Manual (M): You set both shutter speed and aperture.
- Scene Modes: Specific settings for portraits, landscapes, close-ups, sports, night portrait, flash off.
6.3. Focusing
The camera uses autofocus (AF) by default. Press the shutter button halfway to focus. The focus points will light up in the viewfinder when focus is achieved.
