4.1. Interface Ports

  • RS-232 Port: Standard DB9 male connector for connecting to RS-232 devices.

  2. Connect RS-232 Device: Use the supplied RS-232 cable to connect the DB9 male connector of the UT-208 to the RS-232 port of your host device (e.g., computer, PLC).
  3. Connect RS-485/RS-422 Device:
    • For RS-485 (2-wire half-duplex): Connect the A and B terminals of the UT-208 to the corresponding A and B terminals of your RS-485 device. Ensure proper polarity.
    • For RS-422 (4-wire full-duplex): Connect the TX+, TX-, RX+, RX- terminals of the UT-208 to the corresponding RX+, RX-, TX+, TX- terminals of your RS-422 device. Ensure proper polarity.
  4. Verify Connections: Double-check all cable connections to ensure they are secure and correctly wired according to the interface standards.

6. Operating Instructions

Once the UT-208 converter is properly connected, it operates automatically. The converter's intelligent circuitry handles data direction control for RS-485, eliminating the need for external flow control signals.

  • Data Transmission: When your RS-232 device sends data, the TXD indicator on the UT-208 will flash, and the data will be converted and transmitted over the RS-485/RS-422 network.
  • Data Reception: When data is received from the RS-485/RS-422 network, the RXD indicator on the UT-208 will flash, and the data will be converted and sent to your RS-232 device.
  • Software Configuration: Ensure that your communication software on the RS-232 host device is configured with the correct baud rate, data bits, stop bits, and parity settings to match the RS-485/RS-422 network. The UT-208 supports a wide range of standard baud rates.
