1. Introduction

The Dr. Odin DMT 101 Digital Thermometer is designed for quick and accurate measurement of human body temperature. It is suitable for oral and underarm use for both adults and children. This manual provides essential information for the correct operation and maintenance of your thermometer.

2. Safety Information

  • Do not boil the thermometer. Clean the probe with alcohol or soap and water.

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

The Dr. Odin DMT 101 Digital Thermometer comes with a pre-installed AA battery. If replacement is needed, follow these steps:

  1. Gently remove the battery cap at the end of the thermometer.
  2. Remove the old battery and insert a new AA battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Replace the battery cap securely.

4.2. Initial Use

  1. Press the On/Off button. The display will show "188.8°C" or "188.8°F" for a moment, followed by the last measured temperature.
  2. After displaying the last reading, the thermometer will show "L°C" or "L°F" with a flashing "°C" or "°F", indicating it is ready for measurement.

5. Operation

5.1. Taking a Measurement

Ensure the thermometer is clean before use. Press the On/Off button to turn it on.

Oral Use (for adults and older children)

  1. Place the thermometer tip under the tongue as close as possible to the heat pocket.
  2. Keep the mouth closed and hold the thermometer in place.
  3. Wait for approximately 20 seconds until a beep sound indicates the measurement is complete.

Underarm (Axillary) Use (for infants and young children)

  1. Place the thermometer tip in the armpit, ensuring good skin contact.
  2. Hold the arm firmly against the body to keep the thermometer in place.
  3. Wait for approximately 20 seconds until a beep sound indicates the measurement is complete. Underarm readings are typically 0.5°C (0.9°F) lower than oral readings.

5.2. Reading Results and Alerts

  • Once the measurement is complete (indicated by a beep), the temperature will be displayed on the jumbo display.
  • Fever Alarm: If the measured temperature exceeds 37.8°C (100°F), the thermometer will emit a rapid series of beeps to alert the user of a potential fever.
  • The thermometer automatically stores the last reading.

5.3. Switching Between Celsius and Fahrenheit

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F):

  1. With the thermometer turned off, press and hold the On/Off button for approximately 3-5 seconds.
  2. The display will show the current unit, then switch to the other unit. Release the button to select the desired unit.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning and Disinfection

To ensure hygiene and prolong the life of your thermometer:

  • After each use, clean the thermometer tip with a soft cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol (70% concentration) or wash with soap and cool water.
  • Wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Do not immerse the entire thermometer in water or other cleaning solutions.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or thinners.

6.2. Storage

  • Store the thermometer in its protective case when not in use.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid storing near strong electromagnetic fields.

6.3. Battery Replacement

When the battery symbol appears on the display, it indicates that the battery needs to be replaced. Refer to section 4.1 for battery replacement instructions.
