Installation and Setup
1. Point-to-Point Connection
For a direct connection between a single source and a single display, follow these steps:
- Connect your HDMI source (e.g., Blu-ray player, cable box) to the HDMI In port of the Sewell HD-Link Sender unit (sold separately) using an HDMI cable.
- Connect one end of a Cat5e/6 Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the Sender unit.
- Connect the other end of the Cat5e/6 Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the HD-Link HL21 Receiver unit.
- Connect the HDMI Out port of the HL21 Receiver to your display (e.g., TV, projector) using an HDMI cable.
- Connect the IR Emitter cable to the IR-Out port on the Sender unit and position the emitter eye over the IR sensor of your source device.
- Connect the IR Receiver cable to the IR-RX port on the HL21 Receiver unit and position the receiver eye near your display or in a visible location for your remote control.
- Connect the included power adapters to both the Sender and Receiver units.

2. Matrix Connection (Using a Gigabit Network Switch)
For distributing a single HDMI source to multiple displays or multiple sources to multiple displays (requires multiple senders and receivers), follow these steps:
- Connect your HDMI source(s) to the HDMI In port(s) of the Sewell HD-Link Sender unit(s) (sold separately) using HDMI cables.
- Connect the Ethernet port of each Sender unit to a Gigabit Network Switch using Cat5e/6 Ethernet cables.
- Connect the Ethernet port of each HD-Link HL21 Receiver unit to the same Gigabit Network Switch using Cat5e/6 Ethernet cables.
- Connect the HDMI Out port of each HL21 Receiver to its respective display using an HDMI cable.
- Ensure all IR and RS232 connections are made as per your system requirements.
- Connect the included power adapters to all Sender and Receiver units, and power on the Gigabit Network Switch.

Note: For optimal performance in a matrix setup, a dedicated Gigabit Network Switch is recommended. Avoid using your main home network router for this purpose if possible, to prevent network congestion.
Operation
Channel Selection
The HL21 Receiver uses a channel system to pair with a specific Sender unit in a matrix setup. Each Sender unit broadcasts on a unique channel. To select the desired source:
- Observe the digital display on the front panel of the HL21 Receiver. This indicates the currently selected channel.
- Use the + and - buttons on the front panel to cycle through available channels.
- Once the desired channel (corresponding to a Sender unit) is selected, the receiver will attempt to establish a connection and display the video signal.
IR Control
The IR pass-through function allows you to control your source device from the display location.
- Point your source device's remote control at the IR Receiver eye connected to the HL21 Receiver.
- The signal will be transmitted back to the Sender unit and then to the IR Emitter, which will relay the command to your source device.
RS232 Control
The RS232 port allows for serial communication to control compatible devices. Refer to the documentation of your RS232-controlled device for specific commands and connection details.
- Connect your RS232 control device to the RS232 terminal block on the HL21 Receiver.
- Ensure proper wiring (TX, RX, GND) according to your device's specifications.
Maintenance
- Keep the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.
- Avoid exposing the unit to moisture or liquids.
- Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Ensure proper ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
