2. Installation and Setup
2.1 Package Contents
- Crankbrothers Doubleshot 1 Pedals (1 pair)
- Easy Release Cleats (2-bolt system)
- Cleat Mounting Hardware (2 sets)
- Cleat Shims (2)
2.2 Pedal Installation
- Identify the left (L) and right (R) pedals. The left pedal has a reverse thread.
- Apply a small amount of grease to the pedal threads (9/16 Inches).
- Thread the right pedal (R) into the right crank arm (clockwise to tighten).
- Thread the left pedal (L) into the left crank arm (counter-clockwise to tighten).
- Tighten both pedals securely using an appropriate pedal wrench. Do not overtighten.
2.3 Cleat Installation
The Doubleshot 1 pedals use a 2-bolt cleat system. The included easy release cleats offer a 10° release angle.
- Locate the 2-bolt mounting area on the sole of your cycling shoes.
- Place a cleat shim (if needed for proper fit) over the mounting holes.
- Position the cleat over the shim/mounting holes.
- Insert the two cleat bolts through the cleat and into the shoe's mounting plate.
- Adjust the cleat position (fore/aft and side-to-side) to your preferred riding style. A more forward position can increase power, while a more rearward position can improve comfort.
- Tighten the cleat bolts securely. Periodically check cleat bolt tightness.

3. Operation
3.1 Engaging and Disengaging Cleats
To engage the cleat, align the cleat on your shoe with the clip-in mechanism of the pedal and push down firmly until you hear a click. To disengage, rotate your heel outwards away from the bicycle. The easy release cleats provide a 10° release angle, making it easier to unclip.
3.2 Using the Flat Platform
The Doubleshot 1 pedal features a flat platform on the opposite side of the clip-in mechanism. This allows you to ride with regular shoes without clipping in, offering flexibility for casual rides or situations where frequent foot placement on the ground is needed.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Crankbrothers Doubleshot 1 pedals.
- Cleaning: After riding in wet or muddy conditions, clean the pedals with water and a mild detergent. Avoid high-pressure washing directly on the bearings.
- Lubrication: The pedals feature premium bearings and a double seal system for protection. However, periodic inspection and re-greasing of the spindle bearings (if accessible and recommended by manufacturer guidelines) can extend their life.
- Inspection: Regularly check the pedal body for cracks or damage. Ensure the molded pins and ribs are intact. Inspect cleats for wear and replace them when they become difficult to engage or disengage, or if they show significant wear. Check pedal and cleat bolt tightness before each ride.
5. Troubleshooting
- Difficulty Clipping In/Out: Ensure cleats are clean and free of debris. Check cleat position and adjust if necessary. New cleats or pedals may require a break-in period.
- Pedal Squeaking/Noise: This can often be resolved by ensuring pedals are tightly secured to the crank arms. If the noise persists, it may indicate worn bearings or a need for lubrication. Consult a bike mechanic if unsure.
- Loose Pedals: Periodically check and tighten the pedal threads. Loose pedals can cause damage to the crank arms.
