5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
The DM04 multimeter typically comes with batteries pre-installed or included separately. If batteries need to be installed or replaced:
- Ensure the multimeter is turned off and test leads are disconnected.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
- Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw(s) on the battery cover.
- Remove the cover and insert the correct type and number of batteries (e.g., 2 x AAA 1.5V) according to the polarity markings.
- Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw(s).

5.2 Connecting Test Leads
Connect the test leads to the multimeter as follows:
- Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (Common) jack.
- Insert the red test lead into the "VΩmA" jack for voltage, resistance, and current measurements.

6. Operating Instructions
The DM04 features an auto-ranging function, simplifying operation. Turn the rotary switch to the desired measurement function.
6.1 Measuring AC/DC Voltage (V~) / (V-)
- Turn the rotary switch to the "V~" (AC Voltage) or "V-" (DC Voltage) position.
- Connect the test leads in parallel to the circuit or component you wish to measure.
- Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

6.2 Measuring AC/DC Current (A~) / (A-)
Caution: To measure current, the multimeter must be connected in series with the circuit. Never connect the multimeter in parallel when measuring current, as this can damage the meter and the circuit.
- Turn the rotary switch to the "A~" (AC Current) or "A-" (DC Current) position.
- Open the circuit where you want to measure current.
- Connect the multimeter in series with the circuit, ensuring the current flows through the meter.
- Read the current value on the LCD display.
6.3 Measuring Resistance (Ω)
Caution: Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized before measuring resistance. Disconnect power to avoid damage to the multimeter.
- Turn the rotary switch to the "Ω" (Resistance) position.
- Ensure the component is isolated from the circuit or power is off.
- Connect the test leads across the component.
- Read the resistance value on the LCD display.
6.4 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection
- Turn the rotary switch to the "NCV" position.
- Bring the top end of the multimeter near the conductor or outlet you want to test.
- If AC voltage is detected, the NCV indicator light will illuminate, and an audible beep will sound. The frequency of beeps and light flashes may increase with stronger voltage.

6.5 Backlight and Data Hold
- Backlight: Press the "LIGHT" button (if available) to turn the LCD backlight on or off. This improves visibility in dark environments.
- Data Hold: Press the "HOLD" button (if available) to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function.
7. Maintenance
7.1 Cleaning
Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the test leads clean and dry.
7.2 Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in Section 5.1. Always use fresh batteries of the specified type.
7.3 Fuse Replacement (if applicable)
