2. Setup

2.1 Connecting the Drive

  1. Locate an available USB port on your computer (USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 Gen 1 port recommended for optimal performance).
  2. Connect the smaller end of the provided USB cable to the port on the ADATA HV620S external hard drive.
  3. Connect the larger end of the USB cable to the USB port on your computer.
  4. The blue LED indicator on the drive will illuminate, indicating that the drive is powered on and ready for use.

2.2 Initial Formatting (Windows/macOS)

The ADATA HV620S may come pre-formatted with FAT32, which has limitations on file size (maximum 4GB per file). For larger files or improved performance, it is recommended to reformat the drive to NTFS (for Windows) or exFAT (for cross-platform compatibility with Windows and macOS).

Warning: Formatting the drive will erase all data on it. Back up any important data before proceeding.

For Windows:

  1. Connect the HV620S to your computer.
  2. Open "This PC" or "My Computer".
  3. Right-click on the HV620S drive icon and select "Format...".
  4. In the "File system" dropdown, select "NTFS" or "exFAT".
  5. Ensure "Quick Format" is checked (unless a full format is desired).
  6. Click "Start" and confirm the action.

For macOS:

  1. Connect the HV620S to your Mac.
  2. Open "Disk Utility" (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility).
  3. Select the ADATA HV620S from the sidebar.
  4. Click "Erase".
  5. Choose a format like "APFS" (for macOS only) or "ExFAT" (for cross-platform use).
  6. Click "Erase" and confirm the action.

3. Operating the Drive

3.1 Data Transfer

Once connected and recognized by your computer, the HV620S functions like any other storage device. You can drag and drop files, copy and paste, or use backup software to transfer data to and from the drive.

Always safely eject the drive before disconnecting it to prevent data corruption.

For Windows:

  1. Click the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner).
  2. Select the ADATA HV620S from the list.
  3. Wait for the "Safe to Remove Hardware" notification before disconnecting the cable.

For macOS:

  1. Drag the HV620S drive icon from your desktop to the Trash icon (which will change to an Eject icon).
  2. Alternatively, right-click (or Control-click) the drive icon and select "Eject".
  3. Wait for the drive icon to disappear from the desktop before disconnecting the cable.
