Product Overview

The Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 is designed to provide a superior clean, removing up to 7 times more plaque than a manual toothbrush. It features sonic technology, a pressure sensor, a Smartimer, and a Quadpacer to enhance your brushing experience.

Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 Electric Toothbrush on charging base

Image Description: A black Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 electric toothbrush standing upright on its black charging base. The toothbrush handle is sleek and black, with a white power button featuring a power symbol. The brush head, white with blue and green bristles, is attached to the top. The charging base has a power cord extending from it, and two indicator lights (battery and brush head replacement) are visible on the lower part of the toothbrush handle.

Setup and First Use

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure you have the toothbrush handle, one brush head, and the charger.
  2. Attach Brush Head: Align the brush head with the handle so the bristles face the same direction as the front of the handle. Push the brush head down firmly onto the metal shaft until it stops.
  3. Initial Charge: Place the toothbrush handle on the charger. Plug the charger into an electrical outlet. The battery indicator light will flash to confirm charging. For the first use, charge the toothbrush for at least 24 hours to ensure a full battery life. A full charge provides approximately 2 weeks of regular use (two 2-minute brushings per day).

Operating Instructions

  1. Wet Brush Head: Wet the bristles of the brush head and apply a small amount of toothpaste.
  2. Position Brush: Place the brush head against your teeth at a slight angle towards the gumline.
  3. Power On: Press the power button to start brushing.
  4. Brushing Technique: Gently glide the brush head slowly across your teeth, allowing the sonic action to clean. Do not scrub. Move the brush head from tooth to tooth, covering all surfaces.
  5. Smartimer and Quadpacer: The toothbrush features a Smartimer that automatically turns off after 2 minutes of brushing, the dental professional recommended time. The Quadpacer feature signals every 30 seconds to indicate when to move to the next quadrant of your mouth, ensuring thorough cleaning.
  6. Pressure Sensor: If you apply too much pressure, the toothbrush will emit a different vibration and the handle will indicate this. Reduce pressure to allow the brush to clean effectively and protect your gums.
  7. Easy-Start Feature: For the first 14 brushings, the Easy-Start feature gradually increases the brushing power to help you adapt to the Sonicare experience. This feature can be deactivated if desired (refer to the full user manual for instructions).
  8. Power Off: Press the power button again to turn off the toothbrush before the Smartimer completes, or it will automatically turn off after 2 minutes.

Maintenance and Cleaning

  • After Each Use: Rinse the brush head thoroughly under running water while the handle is still on. Remove the brush head and rinse the metal shaft area of the handle. Wipe the handle with a damp cloth.
  • Charger Cleaning: Unplug the charger before cleaning. Wipe the charger surface with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the charger in water.
  • Brush Head Replacement: The BrushSync replacement reminder light will illuminate when it's time to replace your brush head, typically every 3 months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed. Replace brush heads regularly for optimal cleaning performance.
  • Storage: Ensure the toothbrush is clean and dry before storing. Store it in a cool, dry place.
