This manual provides comprehensive instructions for assembling the Revell 03901 Dassault Rafale C 1:48 Scale Plastic Model Kit. The Dassault Rafale C is a multi-purpose fighter aircraft. This kit allows for the creation of a detailed replica, suitable for model enthusiasts aged 10 and up. 2. Safety Information
WARNING: SMALL PARTS. Not for children under 3 years. This kit contains small parts which may pose a choking hazard. Adult supervision is recommended during assembly. Always use tools and adhesives in a well-ventilated area. Refer to adhesive and paint manufacturer instructions for specific safety precautions.
3. Kit Contents
The Revell 03901 Dassault Rafale C model kit includes approximately 250 plastic parts for assembly. Key components include:
- Detailed fuselage and wing sections
- Cockpit assembly with ejection seat

- Weapon pylons and various armaments (e.g., 6 GBU 12 bombs, two SCALP EG cruise missiles, 4 MICA guided weapons)

4. Assembly Instructions
Follow the numbered steps in the included instruction booklet for precise assembly. General steps are outlined below:
- Preparation: Carefully remove parts from the sprues using a hobby knife or sprue cutters. Clean any flash or mold lines with a sanding stick or fine-grit sandpaper.
- Cockpit Assembly: Assemble the detailed cockpit and ejection seat. Paint these components before gluing them into the fuselage halves.
- Fuselage Assembly: Join the fuselage halves, ensuring proper alignment. Use plastic cement sparingly. Allow adequate drying time.
- Wing and Tail Sections: Attach the main wings and tail sections to the fuselage. Pay close attention to the fit of the decoy dispenser on the tail.
- Under-carriage: Assemble and attach the detailed under-carriage. Ensure the landing gear is securely fixed if displaying the model on the ground.
- Thrust Jets: Install the thrust jet components into the rear fuselage.
- Armament and Auxiliary Tanks: Assemble the various bombs, missiles (SCALP EG, MICA), and auxiliary tanks. Attach them to the designated pylons on the wings and fuselage.

5. Painting Guide
Painting is crucial for achieving a realistic finish. The recommended paint type for this model is Acrylic. Refer to the color guide provided in the kit instructions for specific color schemes.
- Surface Preparation: Ensure all assembled parts are clean and free of dust or grease before painting.
- Primer: Apply a thin coat of primer to all surfaces to ensure paint adhesion and a uniform base color.
- Base Coats: Apply base colors in thin, even coats. For the main aircraft body, consider using a Light Ghost Grey for optimal decal visibility, as Medium Grey may obscure certain markings.
- Detail Painting: Paint smaller details such as the cockpit interior, landing gear, and weapon systems.
- Protective Coat: Once painting is complete and dry, apply a clear gloss coat to prepare the surface for decals.
6. Decal Application
The kit includes decals for authentic representations of the Dassault Rafale C. Two versions are provided:
- Rafale C - 330-EF NATO Tigermeet 2012 EC 5/330 Côte d'Argent, Armée de l'Air, BA118 Mont-de-Marsan, 2012
- Rafale C - 30-GF EC 2/30 Normandie-Niemen, Armée de l'Air, BA118 Mont-de-Marsan, 2017
Follow these steps for decal application:
- Surface Preparation: Ensure the painted surface is smooth and has a gloss finish.
- Cutting Decals: Carefully cut out each decal as close to the edge of the design as possible.
- Soaking: Dip the decal in lukewarm water for 10-20 seconds until it slides freely on its backing paper.
- Placement: Slide the decal onto the model surface. Use a wet brush or cotton swab to position it accurately.
- Setting Solution: Apply a decal setting solution to help the decal conform to surface details and eliminate silvering.
- Sealing: Once decals are dry, apply a final clear coat (gloss or matte, depending on desired finish) to seal and protect them.

7. Maintenance
Once assembled and painted, your model requires minimal maintenance:
- Cleaning: Dust the model regularly with a soft, dry brush or a can of compressed air. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Storage: Store the model in a stable environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity to prevent fading, warping, or decal damage.
- Handling: Handle the model by its sturdy parts (e.g., fuselage) to avoid damaging delicate components like antennas or landing gear.
8. Troubleshooting
Common issues encountered during model assembly and their solutions:
- Parts Not Fitting: Ensure all flash is removed from the parts. Dry-fit components before applying glue. If necessary, gently sand mating surfaces for a better fit.
- Gaps Between Parts: Use plastic filler putty to fill any noticeable gaps after gluing. Sand smooth once dry.
- Paint Issues:
- Uneven Coat: Apply paint in thin layers rather than one thick coat.
- Rough Texture: Ensure the surface is clean before painting. Adjust paint thinning or spray pressure if using an airbrush.
- Decal Silvering: This occurs when air is trapped under the decal. Apply decal setting solution and gently press the decal down with a cotton swab to remove air bubbles. Ensure a gloss surface before decal application.
