2. Safety Information

Your safety is paramount. Always wear a properly fitted helmet when riding. The TORC T27B helmet is certified to both ECE and DOT safety standards, ensuring it meets rigorous safety requirements. Always secure the chin strap firmly before riding.

2.1 Proper Fit

A helmet must fit snugly to provide maximum protection. The T27B features an intermediate oval head form. Ensure the helmet does not move freely on your head when shaken. If it does, the helmet is too large. If it causes pressure points or discomfort, it may be too small.

2.2 Chin Strap

Always fasten the quick-release chin strap securely. Ensure it is tight enough so that the helmet cannot be pulled off your head, but not so tight as to cause discomfort.

2.3 Visor Use

Keep the main visor clean and free from obstructions. Use the integrated drop-down sun visor for glare protection as needed. Do not ride with the main visor open at high speeds.

3. Setup

3.1 Initial Inspection

Before first use, inspect the helmet for any signs of damage. Ensure all components, including the visor, chin bar, and Bluetooth unit, are securely attached and functioning correctly.

3.2 Charging the Blinc Bluetooth Unit

The integrated Blinc Bluetooth unit comes with a rechargeable battery. Before initial use, fully charge the unit. Connect the charging cable to the Bluetooth unit's port and a suitable USB power source. A full charge provides up to 8 hours of talk time and 150 hours of standby time.

3.3 Bluetooth Pairing

To pair your Blinc Bluetooth unit with your mobile phone, GPS device, or MP3 player:

  1. Ensure the Bluetooth unit is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the main function button on the Bluetooth unit until the indicator light flashes rapidly, indicating pairing mode.
  3. On your device (phone, GPS), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
  4. Select 'TORC Blinc' or a similar name from the list.
  5. If prompted, enter the PIN '0000'.
  6. Once paired, the indicator light will change, and your device will confirm the connection.

For intercom communication between two or more BLINC enabled helmets, refer to the detailed Blinc Bluetooth manual for specific pairing instructions for rider-to-passenger or bike-to-bike communication within 100 feet.

4. Operating the Helmet

4.1 Modular Chin Bar Operation

The T27B features a one-button release mechanism for the modular chin bar. To raise the chin bar, locate the release button (typically at the center front of the chin bar) and press it firmly while lifting the chin bar upwards until it locks into the open position. To lower it, press the release button again and gently push the chin bar down until it securely latches with a click. The front bar is fastened by stainless steel posts and a metal-on-metal locking system for security.

4.2 Visor and Sun Visor Operation

The main clear visor can be opened and closed manually. The helmet also includes a slider-based drop-down sun visor. Use the slider mechanism, usually located on the side of the helmet, to deploy or retract the sun visor as needed for varying light conditions.

4.3 Ventilation System

The T27B is equipped with significant intake venting and Venturi venting for rear exhaust. Locate the adjustable vents on the helmet (typically on the chin bar and top of the helmet) and slide them open or closed to control airflow and maintain comfort.

4.4 Blinc Bluetooth Functions

The integrated Bluetooth 2.0 technology allows for various functions:

  • Phone Calls: Receive and send calls. Incoming calls automatically override other communications. A call reject feature is available to limit interruptions.
  • Music Streaming: Listen to stereo music from your MP3 player, phone, or XM radio.
  • GPS Directions: Clearly hear GPS directions.
  • Intercom: Communicate with other BLINC enabled helmets (rider-to-passenger or bike-to-bike within 100 feet).

The controls are designed to be glove-friendly and waterproof for ease of use in various conditions. The system features a noise-cancelling microphone, full duplex communications with DSP Filter, and self-adjusting volume.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Helmet Exterior

Clean the helmet shell with a soft cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the helmet's finish or materials.

5.2 Cleaning the Interior Liner

The interior liner is fully removable and machine washable. Carefully remove the liner components according to the instructions (if provided separately with the helmet) and wash them on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Allow to air dry completely before reinserting into the helmet.

5.3 Visor Care

Clean visors with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive materials or window cleaners, which can scratch or damage the visor coating. Allow to air dry.

5.4 Storage

Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a helmet bag to protect it from scratches and dust.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Bluetooth not pairing: Ensure the unit is fully charged and in pairing mode. Check your device's Bluetooth settings. Try restarting both the helmet's Bluetooth unit and your device.
  • Low audio volume at high speeds: While the system has self-adjusting volume and a noise-cancelling microphone, external wind noise at very high speeds can affect perceived volume. Ensure speakers are positioned correctly near your ears.
  • Chin deflector detaches: Ensure the chin deflector is properly seated in its designated slots. If it continues to detach, inspect for any damage to the deflector or its mounting points.
  • Helmet discomfort: Re-evaluate the helmet size and fit. An intermediate oval head form may not suit all head shapes. Ensure the liner is correctly installed after cleaning.
