2. Setup and Installation
2.1 Mounting
The SG3DMCL unit can be mounted on a surface or a pedestal. The construction features a .090 aluminum back box, primed and painted black texture for exterior use, and a stainless steel face plate. Ensure the mounting location provides adequate cellular signal strength for optimal operation.
- Mounting Dimensions: 7 inches (H) x 10 inches (W) x 6 inches (D).
2.2 Power Connection
The system requires a power input of 12-24V AC/DC. A 16.5V 20VA AC transformer is included. Connect the power supply according to the wiring diagram provided in the full installation guide (not included in this manual). Ensure proper polarity for DC connections.
- Current Draw: 90mA @ 12VDC; 80mA @ 24VDC.
2.3 Initial Configuration
After physical installation and power connection, the system requires initial programming. This typically involves setting up authorized phone numbers, PIN codes, and configuring the mobile application. Refer to the detailed programming guide for specific steps.

3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Keypad Entry
To gain access using the keypad, enter your assigned 4-digit PIN code (range 0001 to 9999). The keypad is blue backlit for visibility in low light conditions. The system supports up to 2000 mixed PINs, transmitters, or cards.
3.2 Mobile App Control
The Select Gate Mobile Control App allows for convenient gate operation. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Once configured, you can use the app to:
- Open and close the gate.
- Latch the gate open.
- Hold the gate open for a duration of 1 hour.
3.3 SMS Text Control
Authorized users can send specific SMS text commands to the system's cellular number to control the gate. Functions include opening, closing, latching open, and holding open for 1 hour. Consult the programming guide for a list of valid SMS commands.
3.4 Caller ID Access
The system can recognize up to 1000 authorized caller ID phone numbers. When an authorized number calls the system, the gate will open without requiring a PIN or app interaction. This feature is often referred to as "dial-to-open."
3.5 Card Readers and Transmitters (Optional)
For systems equipped with optional card readers or RF receivers (e.g., Model SG3DMRCL), access can be granted using programmed cards (range 00001 to 65534) or SelectPass Transmitters. The built-in 26 Bit Wiegand Input supports standard card access devices.
4. Maintenance
The SG3DMCL system is designed for durability with its aluminum and stainless steel construction. Regular maintenance should include:
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the exterior with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Firmware Updates: Check with SELECT ENGINEERED SYSTEMS for any available firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Connection Check: Periodically verify all wiring connections are secure and free from corrosion.
- Signal Strength: Monitor cellular signal strength, especially if experiencing intermittent connectivity issues. Signal strength can be verified via SMS Text.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Delayed Response After PIN Entry
If there is a noticeable delay (e.g., 6-8 seconds) between entering a correct PIN and the system responding, this may be due to cellular network latency or system processing. Ensure the PIN is entered correctly and wait for the system's confirmation beep before re-entering. If delays persist, verify cellular signal strength and contact technical support.
5.2 Gate Not Responding to Commands
- Power: Check if the unit is receiving power. Verify the power supply and connections.
- Cellular Signal: Ensure adequate cellular signal strength. Poor signal can prevent commands from being received or sent.
- Authorization: Confirm that the phone number, PIN, or card being used is correctly programmed and authorized in the system.
- SMS/App Commands: Double-check the syntax of SMS commands or the functionality of the mobile app.
5.3 Intermittent Operation
Intermittent issues often relate to cellular connectivity. Check the signal strength via SMS. Environmental factors, such as new obstructions or weather, can affect signal quality. Consider relocating the unit or consulting with a cellular provider if signal issues persist.
