Installation Instructions (Setup)

Follow these steps carefully to install the NEMA 5-15P replacement plug.

1. Cable Selection

Select a cable appropriate for your application, service, and temperature rating. The plug is designed for use with 3-wire cables with a diameter from .300" to .480" (18/3 SJ through 12/3 S).

2. Cable Preparation

Feed the cable end through the housing and strip the cord as shown in Figure 1. Ensure the wire is clean and has bright copper conductor. Do not solder the ends of the wire.

3. Assembly

  1. Select the proper plug or connector for your application. Loosen the 2 screws from the face and remove the assembly from the outer body.
  2. Insert the green wire into the terminal with the green colored screw (marked "GR").
  3. For 125V devices, insert the white (neutral) wire into the terminal with the silver colored screw (marked "W"). Insert the black (hot) wire into the terminal with the black colored screw.
  4. For 250V devices, insert black and white wires into terminals with black colored screws.
  5. When making connections, ensure terminals are secure, properly insulated, and there are no stray wire strands outside the terminals. Tighten the terminal screws to 8.5–10 in-lbs torque.
  6. Assemble the housing over the device body; the keyway in the housing and the body properly aligns the two parts. Tighten the cord clamp screws to a maximum 8-10 in-lbs torque. Lastly, tighten the 2 assembly screws.

Operating Instructions

Once properly installed, the Webber Electronics NEMA 5-15P WB515P plug functions as a standard 15 Amp, 125 Volt electrical plug. Ensure the connected appliance or device does not exceed the plug's rated capacity.

  • Insert the plug firmly into a compatible NEMA 5-15R receptacle.
  • Ensure the connection is secure and there is no looseness.
  • Do not force the plug into an incompatible outlet.
  • Regularly inspect the plug and cord for any signs of damage or wear.

Maintenance

The Webber Electronics NEMA 5-15P WB515P plug requires minimal maintenance. Regular inspection is recommended to ensure continued safe operation.

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the plug from power before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a dry, clean cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or immerse the plug in water.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the plug and the connected cord for any signs of damage, such as cracks in the housing, bent or corroded pins, or frayed insulation on the cord.
  • Tightness: If the plug has been subjected to stress, check the tightness of the cord clamp and terminal screws. Re-tighten if necessary, adhering to the specified torque values.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your NEMA 5-15P WB515P plug, consider the following:

  • No Power:
    • Ensure the plug is fully inserted into the outlet.
    • Check the circuit breaker or fuse for the outlet.
    • Verify that the internal wiring connections are secure and correctly terminated (refer to Assembly section).
  • Loose Connection:
    • If the plug feels loose in the outlet, inspect the outlet for wear.
    • If the cord feels loose within the plug, re-check the cord clamp and terminal screw tightness.
  • Overheating:
    • Immediately disconnect power.
    • Overheating can indicate an overloaded circuit or faulty wiring. Ensure the connected device's power draw does not exceed 15 Amps.
    • Inspect for loose connections or damaged wires.

If problems persist or you suspect internal damage, discontinue use and replace the plug.
